Emerald asks if everything is okay.
 
“Hmm? Oh, yeah! They just needed my help calming a patient of ours. We are a bit understaffed at the moment.” Hope says, looking over to Emerald.
 
Emerald tries to break the ice between Ruby and Hope. He starts by asking silly questions, like if they were a vegetable, what would they be? Eventually everyone starts to relax, and Ruby opens up a bit.
 
“Fruit flavored! Strawberries are pretty good, but I like orange cream too!” Ruby says, responding to Emerald’s question about their favorite dessert.
 
“Mine is the vanilla ice cream from Cherry On Top in Whitherwater.” Hope says, looking up peacefully into the ceiling.
 
“Really? Vanilla?” Ruby says, scrunching her nose a little.
 
“Oh yes my dear! Some people may consider vanilla to be rather boring, but it’s actually quite difficult to make a vanilla ice cream that stands above the rest. It’s the true mark of a good ice cream maker.” Hope says, looking down at Ruby with a kind smile.
 
They continue to talk while Emerald enjoys his food. Neither of them are saying anything particularly revealing. Maybe he can think of a good question to ask?
