Before starting the test Emerald, asks how the cooking is going.
 
“It’s going good! Though all I’ve really done is peel potatoes and cut vegetables…” Ruby says.
 
“Hey!” The chef says looking over and pointing a spoon in Ruby’s direction, “Correctly preparing the ingredients is an important part of cooking, remember that!”
 
“Oh, uh r-right!” Ruby says, taken aback.
 
Emerald says he’ll keep the test simple and just stick to the alphabet. He asks her what is after ‘C’.
 
“Erm…” Ruby says, thinking. Emerald can almost see her singing the alphabet song in her head, “The D?”
 
Emerald says that’s right!
 
Emerald and Ruby carry on doing this for a little while longer, Emerald throwing in the additional short, three letter word to see if she can spell it. She seems to have learned rather well!
