“How did you start? I want to be like you!” Emerald says honestly, faltering slightly with embarrassment near the end of the sentence.
 
“As do a lot of people.” Joyride says smugly, “My story is a bit… Unique actually. I started with enchantments. Specifically the ability to fly, and to run really fast. That won’t really work for you though since your amulet seems to be keeping magic from effecting you.”
 
Emerald thinks on it a second, deciding maybe horn-less magic would be the way to go, and asks about Zebra magic.
 
“Yeah, we could that. Zebra magic is mostly concerned with alchemy and enchanted objects. Curses and illusions are a big part of their magic as well. Their type of magic is more subtle though, things like fireballs and magic missiles don’t really fall under their umbrella. That’s for things like pony magic.”
 
Emerald asks about pony magic.
 
“It’s kind of hard to explain since you probably don’t know much about Etheric Theory, but it’s basically like this… Err…” Joyride says, tapping her chin, “Okay, assume magic was a person. Most types of magic, like deer and zebra, would ask magic nicely to do things for them, maybe even give her gifts in exchange for help. On the other hand magic like the kind ponies use would whip magic until it does the things we want it to do.”
 
“This is why Pony magic needs either a horn or a magical focus. Think of it as the ‘whip’ we use to make magic do stuff for us. Without that ‘whip’ magic wouldn’t even give us the time of day. It’s also why our magic is much stronger offensively. Deer or zebra magic would need to call up a thunderstorm if they wanted lightning. We can just cast it immediately.
 
Both of those options sound like they would be useful.
