The sun shone brightly, but Ambrosia didn’t enjoy the warmth it provided. For her, it was an irritant, mainly because of the sour mood she was putting herself in. She didn’t normally get despondent, just angry. And the hot sun wasn’t doing her mood any favors.
She walked down the street, trying to put the stares she was getting out of her mind, but she still felt them on the back of her withers like ants crawling on her coat. Hadn’t these ponies ever seen a mare in diapers before? Didn’t they have places to go where they couldn’t gawk at her? And that one in the shop across the street should at least have the decency to step back into the shadows where she wouldn’t see him staring at her thickly-diapered hindquarters. She rolled her eyes and sighed.
Soon she arrived at the work site and braced for the jeers she was likely to receive from the other workers. She took a deep breath and boldly walked past a pair of work stallions who were waiting for her to get there. She didn’t look them in the eye or wave, or even give them a smile.
Suddenly she heard from behind her, “Hey, Amber! Great ta see you! You rock!”
Frowning, she turned to look back at the two ponies who were sitting there, and she saw that they were waving at her and smiling. “Huh?”
“We’d heard that you got busted up pretty good,” said the shorter one, Ripsaw. “You got a lotta guts showing up… well, like that. And we all think that’s pretty awesome!”
“Yeah,” said the larger pony, Nut Runner. “And don’t worry, nopony’s gonna make fun of you or talk about… y’know, that. Unless you want to!” He chuckled nervously, then said, “Uh, yeah. As far as we’re concerned, you’re still the same pony!”
“Right!” said Ripsaw.
Smiling for the first time in what felt like an eternity, Ambrosia said, “Thanks, guys. Now, how about you two get to work so ponies don’t think I run a lose ship around here?”
They nodded and reached for their toolbelts. As Ambrosia turned and walked toward the table where the blueprints were kept, she heard a whistle from Ripsaw. Glancing back, she saw Nut Runner giving her a reassuring wave. She grinned back at them.
Maybe this wouldn’t be such a bad thing after all.
