Arabus hates light, and stays in hiding in a very remote village, where he has already stolen all the shadows from its inhabitants, with the only exception being Nightshade and the Shadowettes. He has the area covered with clouds, so there’s only just enough light to create the shadows, but other than that, Arabus prefers darkness. His favorite place is a sort of bottomless canyon that’s hidden deep in the woods behind the village. Zeb practically sees this place as a temple, and it’s rare that anyone else is let in.
Arabus is in a state right now, where he can’t take any other forms than a giant, black cloud with glowing eyes and sharp-looking claws. The claws grab hold of the shadows, or shape them into the shadow-servants he uses, which will be shown in another drawing. He has a hoarse, raspy voice like a smoker, unless he gets angry; then the voice turns loud and booming like a thunder storm. Anyone who isn’t used to being near him will say that he has a smell that reminds you of burning oil or tar. Whatever it is, it’s not a pleasant smell.
