To those outside of his immediate circle of friends, Snails cutey mark would seem to be something of a mystery.  
From his days as a foal, little Snails seemed slow, tho specialist and therapist assured his parents that he was a normal young colt. If anything, they felt, he was slightly above average in intelligence. But the child was unfocused and seemed bored with the world around him. If he could just find SOMETHING to engage him, they said, he might truly excel at something.  
And so young Snails endured round upon round of hobbies and diversions, from arts and crafts to music, all with lackluster (and occasionally disasterous) results. Then one fateful day, his mother asked him to take a small package to his father at work and Snail smelled his destiny.

The kitchen entranced to little unicorn; the aromas, the activity, the energy of a kitchen at full steam THIS was what he wanted to do! Delighted that their son had finally shown a genuine passion in something, they set him to learning all he could about fine French cooking.  
Years of practice at home, then a part time job at the restaurant as bus boy and dish washer, he slowly worked his way up the strict hierarchy of a kitchen until the day he was awarded the most coveted position; assistant Sausier. His friends Snips, Appleboom and Twist all act as culinary guinea pigs as he tries out everything hes learned and his various experiments, and are surprisingly frank with their critiques and thats exactly how he likes it!
