Ruler of the Dragon Lands, rather easygoing by the standards of court, and often informal. Honest and direct, as is often the case among dragons. Backstabbing and intrigue is seen as weak and dishonorable among the ruling elite, open duels are the norm for those who desire something that others possess, be it wealth or political power. As such, Dragon Lord Ember sits firmly on the throne, because she is a very good fighter.  
Why she chose Spike out of all people to represent her at Celestia’s Court is a thing of mystery, but perhaps personal reasons came into play. In any case it should be in Celestia’s interest that no harm befalls the young dragon, lest she incur the wrath of the Dragon Lands and its ruler.
