*+Broken Bonds - Prequel to For The Love of a Mother
(Play BGM 01 - I, Shinji)
As Celestia, Cadance, and Twilight Sparkle were all conversing in the throne room, a faint sound of doors bursting open grew louder and louder. Eventually, through the main doors, came Prince Azure Glide, Celestia’s adopted son. The look on his face spelled anger, rage, and pain. Off the bat, Celestia knew what he came for and with a sigh, braced herself.
“Twilight, Cadance, please.” Celestia shuddered. There, the other two princesses knew what she meant and vacated the room. Now, all that were present were a mother and her enraged son. “Azure, what troubles you?”
“Oh, you already know the answer to that.” Azure growled. “I know you can read my thoughts!”
“Son, please calm down.” Celestia calmly pleaded. “I’m sure that w-”
“ENOUGH OF THIS!” Azure barked, startling his mother. His anger bubbled to the surface. He felt that he could trust her but a conversation with his aunt Luna instilled a sense of betrayal. “Luna showed me everything you’ve kept… FROM ME!”
“And what would that be?”
“My birth parents, that’s what!” Azure got closer to the steps of the thrones, teary-eyed and angry, “They were all killed… MURDERED by somepony’s selfish ambitions! You did nothing for them! YOU’VE LET THEM DIE!”
Being a near-omnipotent being, Celestia often too the role of guardian of Equestria. But, she couldn’t be everywhere all at once. On the night of Chisel and Vanilla Swirl’s deaths, Celestia was occupied in dealing with an unruly Duke of Trottingham. Still, there was only so much she could do at any given time. When she adopted Azure that one day, her mind connected with his and she found out why he was orphaned. It broke her heart and
hurt her more that she kept lying to him about it.
“Son,” Celestia sighed, “I-I’m sorry that I’ve lied to you.” She hung her head in shame, “You have every right to be angry with me.”
“Don’t son me!” Azure yelled, stomping his right forehoof, “I thought all this time that I could trust you. But you’ve lied to me time and time again! Didn’t you think that I had every right to know this as an adult?! HUH?!” Turning his back to her, he trotted towards the exit, seething with anger and grim resolve.
“Son, where are you going?”
“To correct something that you’ve failed to fix, Celestia.” The last bit was said with an ounce of venom and hatred. By what he meant, Celestia knew of his intentions. In fact, she’s seen a similar face countless times before over the years and knew only one way it was going to end: through bloodshed. As their relationship is already fractured, Celestia could only do nothing as getting in his way would drive them further apart. She let him go as she slumped on her throne crying.
“Son, I-I’m sorry.”
