After having been transformed by accident due to Rarity’s touch, Applejack squirmed and tried to remain afloat, feeling numb from the waist down. She was scared, and disoriented, her new mermaid tail moved from side to side, without control. Taking a big mouthful of air, Applejack sank beneath the waves and as she did, the girl closed her eyes. She opened them as soon as she felt her friends’ hands around her. She opened her eyes again and she saw both Pinkie and Rarity. They were mermaids, just like Rainbow and Twilight. The cowgirl looked at herself and noticed in shock, that she had a long, muscular fish tail instead of legs. Tiny, orange coloured scales covered her from the waistline down, all the way to the tip of her tail, from which a pair of transparent, orange-ish fins emerged. She was still holding her breath, though she didn’t need to now. Twilight was frustrated because yet another friend fell to the curse.

“Why? Just why? How could this happen?” asked the purple egghead.
“Twilight, dear, I think it is my fault and I am really sorry” answered Rarity.
“WHy did you do that? Are you out of your mind too? Did you feel envy for her legs?” scolded Twilight
“I didn’t know that I could turn people into mermaids just by touching them. I am sorry.” said Rarity, defensively and embarrased.
“Wasn’t it obvious? Weren’t you transformed by Rainbow Dash, by touch?”
“Well there was no way I could know that I would also have the ability to turn someone else too…”
“Is that you have never seen Zombie Apocalypse movies? In which once you are infected by a bite, you turn and you can infect others?” said Twilight Sparkle, with unexplainable savviness regarding human filmography.
“Ohhhh, SO this could be the start of a Mermaid Apocalypse!” said Pinkie Pie, getting funny ideas in her mind.
“PINKIE!!!!!” Rarity and Twilight yelled at the pink, playful mermaid
“What?”
“Don’t even think about going around turning people. Arggh, anyway, we need to find a way to stop this and go back to normal. I must contact Sunset Shimmer, I am sure that we can figure what happened with the portal and what made it to cause me to turn into this and why is it spreading, and most importantly: how to revert the effects” said Twilight
“Easier said than done. First we need to get to land and contact her, without drowning in the air and without being seen” remarked Rarity.
At that moment, Applejack coughed, she noticed that she was breathing underwater and panicked. Pinkie held her and tried to calm her down.
“Cornsarnit… This is real… I thought I was dreaming… then I thought I was drowning while I dove… I am sorry… I am getting used to the water… Sheesh… Okay…. you need someone to go up there and contact Sunset Shimmer… Ah can go, my cellphone is safe, dry and charged in my backpack on the beach.” said Applejack.
“Thanks AJ, but you are too weak from the transformation… maybe if some other can do it…”
Pinkie was bouncing up and down, volunteering herself.
“Other one that is not trying to bring about a Mermaid Apocalypse”
Rainbow Dash rose her hand, smiling mischievously.
“You are kidding right, Rainbow? You betrayed your own friend, just because you had leg envy. I will not trust you until I am sure you can be trusted again. I am sorry but no.”
“Why don’t we go Twilight?, You and I?” suggested Rarity
“I thought so too, Rarity, but who will control these two from mermafiying the whole beach?” said Twi, pointing to Pinkie and Rainbow.
“That only leaves us with you AJ, you will need to go and contact Sunset” continued the purple girl.
“Don’t worry sugarcubes. I will go and bring her here” said the cowgirl.
“Remember, don’t touch and don’t let you be touched!!!!” said Twilight.
“Alright, here I go…”. Said the newest mermaid.

And with that… Applejack tried to swim off to the shore, just to squirm and tackle and wiggle around. Everybody facepalmed.
“Uh, girls… a little help?”

Many awkward minutes later…

Applejack finally arrived to where the water was shallow enough as to be able to touch the sand and drag herself while floating. In no time, she arrived to the surf and then she beached herself. She expelled the water from her lungs, it was weird, it felt like she was vomiting and suddenly, the sensation of air, fresh air into her lungs. She looked back and saw her friends, returning to deeper water.
“Alright, girl, Ah have mission to complete”.
She dragged herself and felt the hot sand in her hands.
“This is gonna be harder than I thought” she said as she looked at her tail. She curled it… it gave her an idea…
