poor little Ditzy…but it’s not all bad.
- Ditzy Macademia Doo was only eighteen when she became pregnant. Despite her learning disabilities, difficulty reading on account of her unusual eyes, and her forgetfulness, Ditzy graduated high school with an athletic scholarship. In preparation for college, she decided to reward herself by seeing the world a little before starting up with school again. She traveled to several amazing places with her family until she met a handsome foreign stranger in Prance that swept her away into a romantic dream. Ditzy thought she was on top of the world. That she was smart, independent and sexy, despite years of hardship keeping up in school. So it was no surprise when her entire world came crashing down at the news of her pregnancy.
- Before she could even figure out how she felt about it, ponies came at her with their own opinions on her pregnancy. Being a mare with clear physical and mental hurtles, some questioned her ability to care for a child. She found herself angry at the those who now suddenly doubted her even when she accomplished so much. However, after a short, brutal fight with the flood of reality checks, Ditzy started to believe them. That all of this was impossible…and her baby would get hurt. A baby was not like winning a trophy or finishing her senior project.
- Ditzy decided to try to contact her partner several times until she saw that that, too, was hopeless.
4-6) It’s likely Ditzy would have chosen to give up the child if it weren’t for support from her best friend Murdoc “Doc” Whooves. He convinced her that not only did she always have a choice in this, but that her baby would be just as unique and capable as she was. That she could raise a baby. And that she wasn’t alone. It was really hard sometimes, but the two ended up having a lot of fun preparing for the foal.
Doc suggested researching as much as possible to ease their fears (“For education is the pathway out of the fear of the unknown!!”). Research was Doc’s strong suit, and Ditzy felt a lot better thinking of it like one big school project with a huge reward at the end. They consulted several specialists, including Treehugger, who suggested a more au naturale type of birth. Ditzy was very open to it, but of course, she had her limits.
- After a long process of immense pain and growth and joy, Ditzy gave birth to a healthy filly she named Fae “Dinky” Doo.
After all the preparation they had done, Ditzy knew she was ready, but Doc suddenly grew extremely nervous as the flood of anxiety he had been bottling up for her sake came rushing out. He kind of had a break down, thinking of the numerous complications, hiccups, or tragedies that could have occurred that day and he had to remove himself for a while and let Ditzy and her family handle it. But then…as the small cry of a newborn taking its first breath caught his ears, he was overcome with a serene joy.
“Look Doc…she’s perfect…just like you said she would be…”
“Oh yes well, now you know you must never doubt me!” Doc said, voice high pitched and still wracked with fear.
This earned a soft chuckle from Ditzy, “Hehe, it sounds like you doubted me, Mr. Whooves. Shame on you.”
“Agh, I’m offended, madame! What’s a little last minute jitters compared to ten months of stoic dedication to this little infant?” Doc chided quietly with that warm smile that made Ditzy’s heart flutter.
“Fair enough…I think we’ve had reason to be scared.” Ditzy reached out a heavy wing, newly laced with motherly down, and cuddled her friend and newborn. “Thanks for not giving up on us, buddy.”

Notes:
-Doc and Ditzy remain best friends for several years after this with Doc acting as Dinky’s stand-in father. Not that Dinky minded of course. She loved Doc with all of her little heart, and Ditzy couldn’t help but fall for the stallion that not only gave her so much, but also treated her child like his own. The two start to get a little bit more intimate as time wears on until it’s very obvious where their relationship was headed, and this is solidified by Ditzy’s second pregnancy with her and Doc’s son Nickel Whooves. They are married (Dinky’s the flower girl of course!) and eventually have four more babies together. What can they say? They LOVE children, but with all of their awesome kids, they could fight against the stigmatization of parents with disabilities together.
-Ditzy never did finish college, but she is quite happy where she is as the Ponyville mailmare and as a kickass mom
-Because she was an athlete in school, Ditzy remained dedicated to staying fit. Doc loves his muscular wife.
~~Oh! And Amethyst Star is Ditzy’s twin sister. Being a hard ass go-getter, she was pretty distraught by Ditzy’s pregnancy. She was angry and wanted revenge on the sleazebag that ruined her sister’s life, but Ditzy insisted that it wasn’t his responsibility if he didn’t want it and to leave it alone. Ame didn’t want to ~~ like, she reallllly didn’t want to just let this slide - but she eventually started focusing on helping Ditzy. She and her niece Dinky are very close, and the two of them are pure sass machines together.
I can blame this ship entirely on the Ask Lovestruck Derpy tumblr. It’s so cheesy and silly, but good golly did it ever melt my heart and I’ve loved these two ever since.
