This link, this picture, was posted 6 years ago today. I’ve always planned on redrawing it, I’ve also always planned on one day telling the story in which this idea came. It was a dream. I believe in 2012 during a summer vacation I had a dream that was so vivid, so strange, and honestly so hilarious that when I woke up I reached over and grabbed my itouch 2 and wrote a brief summary of what happened. Sadly, that screenshot is on my computer that current;y doesn’t’ work. I still remember it so clearly it’s as if I just woke up from it… Welp. Today’s the day. If you want to read what following, get comfortable, grab a snack and strap in.

Fleur de Lis lead a pretty normal life. A model, in the public eye she had everything she ever wanted. BUT THEN ONE DAY…
Eugene Krabs was visiting Canterlot for a potential business opportunity. He was walking through the streets when a beautiful mistress caught his attention. It was none other than the famous super model, Fleur de Lis. He was’t much of a ladies man, but he figured this may be his only chance to speak with someone so majestic, so strikingly beautiful. With his marimba-esque sounding legs, he marched over and introduced himself. Usually, Fleur had no patience for random men approaching her, a married woman, but something about his voice was comforting, soft… He asked her to dinner, and she obliged.
Weeks had passed and Eugene had stayed in Canterlot long beyond his original planning. The new found attraction between himself and Fleur had gone from a few dates to full, unyielding, love. Love! Eugene asked Her to run away with him, to start a new life together and throw caution to the wind. Fleur couldn’t refuse. Her heart absolutely belonged to the crustacean, there was no stopping them now. There was only one issue, she was married. Pumba, a warthog… well THE warthog, and her were married, albeit for political reasons, but there was once a very real love between them. The marriage had always been arranged and was a bit cold at first, but she felt for his earnest mannerisms. But time is a cruel mistress. Pumba found himself more and more caught up in his politics, with less time for his ravishingly beautiful wife. (The absolute fool) She loved him, and still to a degree does, but the time to move on has come. She needed a way out that didn’t put his feelings on the line. So, she called on a friend with the writing skills of poet beyond his years. The Brave Little Toaster (part of me has always believed that this part was in fact played by Rainbow Dash but time has made me want to have one less pony in the story… I’m not sure if that’s true or not, but… just know it could be the Toaster, could be rainbow dash…) Anyway, so the Brave Little Toaster/Rainbow Dash had a comically large type writer. A typewriter so large you’d need to jump from key to key, but still wrote on A4 sized paper. Fleur had decided to fake her own suicide. Blaming it on the pressures of model life, she had her ghost writer draw up the letter.
Her bags were packed, the note was placed on the counter, and she was about to walk out and meet with her true love. Hoofsteps. Pumba had come home early and saw her in the hall about to leave. Shocked, he looked at her with tears in his eyes. Noticing the note on the counter out of the corner of his eye, he read it. A look of disappointed relief washed over his face with an exhale. Now understanding what was going on, he began to a classic, 80’s style, coming of age speech, “There comes a time in a young lady’s life…” After his speech, accepting that she meant no harm and tried to spare his feelings, he dismissed her to run to her waiting love. After she was out the door, he poured himself a glass a poison (I guess he just… had around) and with a drink, he collapsed and died.
Eugene and Fleur were reunited at a cliffside in a neaby desert. For whatever reason, it’s the cliff from the beginning scene of the 2009 Star Trek reboot in-which young James Kirk drives his stepdad’s Corvette off of. Anyway, they both stepped into a hot air balloon. This hot air balloon was a zooble. (i.pinimg.com/236x/29/80/44/298…) As the winds took the balloon sky-way the balloon spoke. In a very high pitched helium voice the vows began. The two lovers married in mid-air. A change of camera angle, and all of a sudden they were no longer in the desert, but instead, in my childhood home’s kitchen, and the cliff they departed from was in fact my kitchen counter. Another camera angle and they were back in the desert. The balloon continued into their future and with a lens-flare, I woke up, and the two of them presumably lived happily ever after.

in 2013 I drew the original, after the idea came to me in the shower. But it was more of a titanic joke than it was a tribute to the dream. Now that’s fixed, and a promise to once tell the internet of the story behind the image, fulfilled.
