Environment can fuck up the wiring in one's head. See: PTSD, troonism (when it's not confusing depression and other disease symptoms for "dysphoria"); cluster B disorders (a.k.a. failure to grow up) being massively over-represented in children of parents who also have them, too.

Like, all the "hurr durr babies are found in cabbage" does is tell the kid you're a liar and butter them up for predators who instead talk honestly and thus earn trust they don't deserve.
