Description

Looking for a little bit of reference help here.

This is from the Twilight Sparkle Micro-series IDW Comic. Summer Mane (the green unicorn) and Twilight share a love of books. “Jade Singer” is an author that wrote one book then disappeared. (Savvy readers can already tell where this is going).

“Jade Singer” is very obviously meant to be J.D. Salinger, who was a very reclusive author. (Jade wrote “Canter in the Sky”, a play on “Catcher in the Rye” by Salinger).

My question, which I didn’t get much help from others, is on the name “Cesium Grande”. This is the only place where it appears in the comic, and I’ve provided as much context that the comic really gives on that. This is the only other pony author mentioned, so if there’s any play on words, I don’t know how consistent it is.

The only real-life author that I can even think meets this is C.S. Lewis (given that cesium’s chemical symbol is Cs), but the “Grande” part doesn’t make sense.

I’ve asked a few people with better literature bgs on this but they have no immediate clue. All the other pop references in this comic are easy so this one has been nagging me.
