After a difficult pregnancy and uncommonly long labor, Luna wasn’t exactly looking forward to raising her brand new bundle of joy. She’d decided early on that if the child could survive, it deserved the right to try, though many doctors insisted this kind of crossbreed would not live long. Some encouraged her to abort, when her own health began to take a downturn, but a mere head cold wasn’t going to dissuade the Princess of the Night. Even if she didn’t really think she would make a good mom, she wanted to at least see this part through to the end. But when she did finally lay eyes on the little draconequiis cub her worries subsided. He was odd and squirmy and wouldn’t stop screeching at the top of his lungs… but he was undeniably hers. He was healthy, as far as the doctors could tell, and she was glad for that. It wasn’t love, not yet. But for the first time in almost a year of doubt and fear and guilt, she thought, maybe she could do this. Maybe… just maybe… she could be a mother and be happy. Maybe, she could do this and do it right.
