Writing this page was how I discovered that building for 4e with all the resources is basically impossible these days. (And my antivirus flags the hack-around offline builder as malware. And the server providing the updates is broken, so if you don’t install it in a certain way it’s dead on arrival and you have to start all over again.) My foundational TTRPG now has an incredible barrier to entry because all of its best tools and resources were proprietary.

DM: Well, since it sounds like we’re about to meet Shining Armor, do you want to talk about your character?
Shining Armor: Sure! Big surprise, I’m a Paladin. It’s been ages since I played 4e, so I just followed a guide. Shining Armor is a Captain of the Guard, which I figure is both about protecting people and being kind of a public face, so for my top stats I balanced between Strength and Charisma. For my Paragon Path, I went with Champion of Order.
DM: Aww, but Knight of Celestia was right there…
Shining Armor: Sorry, guide said it wasn’t very good. And I don’t plan on being Celestia’s Captain forever. Other than that, yeah, nohting too special for a 4e Paladin. Get my marks out, draw attention away from the rest of the party, facestab for reasonable damage.
DM: Yep, you sure are a Defender.
Rainbow Dash: Okay, that sounds good… as long as you aren’t gonna get all Lawful Stupid on us.
Shining Armor: Haha, yeah, I’ve been on the other side of that. Don’t worry. I’m more… let’s say, Lawful Chill!
Rainbow Dash: …Is that even possible??
