Chrysalis;  
Headcanon for the Eqqverse.
 
After being effectively dethroned and chased out of her Hive by her own children Chrysalis found herself not just bitter but tired, following attempts at revenge ended in futility and just furthered her realization that she’s dedicated herself to nothing but her own selfishness.  
That’s right, Chrysalis is remorseful.  
She has done a lot of bad and harmful things and made wrong decisions left and right but she has always looked out for her hive, her workers, her family.  
But her family found that they would be better off without her.  
They are not exactly wrong.  
But a scorned mother hurts.
 
It was simple luck and a cruel joke by the universe that she was found in the freezing tundra of the north by none other then a merciful chrystal guard.  
Waking up the ex-Queen found herself in what could only be described as a golden cage, a room with all amenities but no exit.  
She would then be visited by the Prince and later the Empress(*) of the cursed country she’d landed in.  
Shining Armor regarded her with guarded hesistance and a scepticism that somehow cut, maybe because it reminded her so much of the eyes of her hive before they decided to rid themselves of her.  
Cadance was kind.  
It was ridiculous, after snagging and imprisoning her, repetedly fighting her meddling Pony kin, the princess of love shower a soft smile and open ears.  
Maybe it was her damned magic, mind controlling witch… maybe it was the exhaustion tugging on the Queens waning energy reserves.  
She spoke, and spoke, slow at first but with more vigor as time went by.  
Over the weeks she was not sure anymore which tears were Cadances and which were her own.  
She found out about the young couples happy spawn and Cadance more then empathised with the changeling as losing her Daughter was unfathomable to the Alicorn.
 
It is a surreal story and Chrysalis still finds herself swept up and lost by it all.  
She had been imprisoned but kept comfortable while the Court found out what her mission was, but when they realized she was simply aimlessly wandering and starving in the snowy tundra they decided to help her and with no influence of her manipulative magic she won over the very princess of love.
 
Shining Armor took more time, and Chrysalis did not fault him, but ultimately he too came around, to begin with he was skeptic about Cadances attachement to the Changeling queen and put her through regular magic scans to make sure the shapeshifter was not playing tricks but it wasn’t so.  
Cadance told her husband about the Queens sorrows and before long he quietly joined their talks, being an oddly comforting presence in the back of them.
 
When Chrysalis first met Flurry Heart everyone was on high alter, this could very well be the end of their kingdom,the end of an era and the reveal of a deeply diabolical plot of the Changeling to usurping them by hitting their weakest point.  
But sure no one expected Chrysalis to first have a hard time focusing before cradling the young Alicorn like the most fragile glass sculpt.  
The volatile toddler meanwhile was babbling and giggling excitedly at the new face, clapping her little hooves against dark obsidian chitin and staring up at the bug eyed equine with her big baby blues.  
It was absolute love, Cadance, reading the emotions in the room broke down in tears and was with her child and new court member in seconds, Shining quickly followed.  
Chrysalis started telling softer tales, of her first days as Queens, raising her own brood before having capable drones, the odd little accidents and habits she’d find out about young changeling grubs and the pride she felt when her soliders did well, even if some of those deeds were morally reprehensible for pony standarts.
 
The Royal family then found a rhythm with plenty of bumps in the road but that was not nessecarily the newcommers fault, but rather the fact that Shining and Cadance were still learning how to run the Empire and also be parents, it was impressive that Chrysalis managed to help at least a little in both regards.  
While she was a strong leader, she is not exactly comfortable giving orders the same way she used to but is always open to give suggestions and brainstorm, effectively making her an important consort to the Empress and prince.  
Under Pony folk she usually appears as ‘Shutterbug’ her default pony disguise.  
A lot of her time is spend with Flurry Heart tho, the Alicorn grows up to adore her bug mom to death and looks up to her in more ways then one.  
Sunburst is still pretty spooked by the Changeling but doesn’t have to interact with her a lot since chrysalis rather likes her privacy these days.
 

 
Tldr: Chrys got married to the Chrystal Royals and adopted Flurry who is a happy baby with two mamas now  
Also Chrys ‘holes’ and crooked horn filled out as I HC that the odd shapes are due to malnutrition which was amended during her stay in the chrystal empire, now giving her a, still gaunt but healthy frame.
 
The image is probably one of those rare times in the beginning of their relationship when Shining and Chrys actually flirted (here in her shutterbug form but with her Queen form for comparison) or the first time he asks her on a one on one date. Cadance is thrilled that her favorite ponies are getting jiggy.
