Princess Cadence ruled the Crystal Empire with a warm and loyal heart: she protected her ponies and spread love far beyond the walls of the empire. Ponies across Equestria loved Princess Cadence; however, although odd, some ponies did not know of the existence of the princess of love. After being trapped in limbo for a thousand years, the Pillars of Equestria embraced their peaceful freedom by exploring their old realm, and their leader, Star Swirl the Bearded, was especially eager to continue his magical research. When the group heard of the Crystal Empire’s return and their new alicorn princesses, Star Swirl took it upon himself to visit these new alicorns first. Upon receiving a letter asking permission for a royal audience from Star Swirl himself, Princess Cadence eagerly accepted, having wanted to meet the powerful wizard after hearing of his incredible return from her sister-in-law, Princess Twilight Sparkle. When the day came for Star Swirl’s arrival to the Crystal Empire, Princess Cadence, Prince Shining Armor, and Princess Flurry Heart all gathered to greet the unicorn. Star Swirl could not have asked for a more important and polite welcome, and after a few days of rest at the Crystal Castle, the unicorn decided to begin what he truly came to the empire to do: learn more about alicorns.
 
For weeks, Star Swirl interviewed Princess Cadence and studied both her and Princess Flurry Heart, a truly unique creature. Never before had an alicorn been physically born, and yet right in front of Star Swirl was nothing short of a magical miracle. From meeting and studying Princess Flurry Heart, Star Swirl began hypothesizing the magic of alicorn creation, specifically regarding the birth of a new alicorn. After much thought, Star Swirl decided that he needed to ask his royal hosts a bold question, one that could mean further research: could Princess Cadence and Prince Shining Armor conceive another alicorn? At first Princess Cadence was shocked by the question: was it immoral to conceive a child simply for research purposes? Could she birth another alicorn? Could her body handle another alicorn baby? After weeks of convincing from both Star Swirl and even Princess Twilight Sparkle, Princess Cadence and Shining Armor decided to go ahead with a new conception, and within a few months Princess Cadence publicly announced her pregnancy. The Crystal Empire roared with happiness and joy, Star Swirl was eager to further his alicorn research, Princess Twilight eagerly awaited a new niece or nephew, and both Princess Cadence and Shining Armor awaited their new child.
 
An air of suspense filled the Crystal Castle during Princess Cadence’s pregnancy: Star Swirl made sure that the princess did everything during this pregnancy that she did with her previous one to Princess Flurry Heart. When the day finally came for the birth of the new royal child, Equestria seemed to hold its breath: would there be a new alicorn? After a relatively easy labor, Princess Cadence and Shining Armor welcomed a small pegasus colt into the world, whom they named Shinning Breeze. Upon learning that the new royal child was not an alicorn as Star Swirl desired, the unicorn inquired with the royal couple on trying again. Although Princess Cadence admired the great wizard for his power and knowledge, the pink alicorn refused, her body so weak from pregnancy. Shining Armor took a more emotional approach, ordering the great wizard to remove himself from the royal family’s presence, claiming that his wife was not a machine for producing data. Star Swirl left with only a nod, claiming to return to Canterlot to continue teaching.
 
Princess Cadence and Shining Armor loved their new son despite his lack of horn: even Princess Flurry Heart seemed to like her new baby brother. The Crystal Empire, and even all of Equestria, reveled in the new royal child, celebrating his birth with fairs and parades. As the infant pegasus colt grew older, Princess Cadence and Shining Armor began noticing the effects of his succession of an alicorn: unlike Flurry Heart when she was an infant, Shinning Breeze struggled physically: his wings were weak, his eyesight was bad, his legs were gangly, and overall the colt could not keep up with colts his age. Although this did not stop his parents from loving him, Shinning Breeze’s physical weaknesses and lack of alicorn status did place him in the shadow of his older sister. While Princess Flurry Heart received the continuous admiration of the Crystal ponies, learned from the finest tutors, and attended royal duties, Shinning Breeze seemed to be left behind since most ponies saw him as a “spare”. All of these faults against him did not deter the colt from pursuing other interests, and so while his sister was constantly in the spotlight, Breeze learned the behind the scenes work of the Crystal Castle. The staff of the castle became Breeze’s closest friends, all of whom adored the humility, ease, and quiet of the prince, especially when compared to the once destructive alicorn Flurry Heart. The crystal castle staff even helped the young prince gain his cutie mark in bookkeeping from a small tradition of coin collecting. By the time Shinning Breeze reached adulthood, the young prince earned the respect and dedication of the castle staff and many members of the Crystal Empire community as more than just the “spare prince”. Alongside his achievements, Shinning Breeze will unfortunately always live under the shadow of his elite royal family, especially Princess Flurry Heart who may one day rule over her younger brother.

I seem to never stop with these MLP Next Generation families! This ship is show-canon, so the pairing of Princess Cadence and Shining Armor stays. Obviously I did not create Princess Flurry Heart, and although I do depict her as an adult here, I do not have too much to say about her since I do not know what the show is going to do with her, so as it stands now this story may change. I also purposely did not give Flurry Heart a cutie mark because again, I do not know where the show is taking her and I am too lazy to make one up that may end up being scrapped anyway. Instead, may I present my twelfth MLP NG family, Princess Cadence, Prince Shining Armor, Princess Flurry Heart, and Prince Shinning Breeze! For now, some information on the pegasus among alicorns:

Prince Shinning Breeze  
Species: Pegasus  
Story: Prince Shinning Breeze is the second child and only son of Princess Cadence and Shinning Armor. Although not born an alicorn as so many ponies hoped, Shinning Breeze is loved by his family and the ponies of Equestria, even though they all unconsciously leave him in the shadow of his older sister, the alicorn Princess Flurry Heart. As a result of this “spare” status, Breeze learned his place in the world with the help of those who keep the Crystal Castle functioning, the castle staff.  
Cutie Mark/Special Talent: A bookkeeping book with a quill and the Sparkle family emblem. The mark symbolizes Shinning Breeze’s talent in bookkeeping and his connection to the Sparkle family despite him being a pegasus. The prince acquired the mark after maintaining a coin collection given to him by various castle staff throughout his young childhood.
