Hey everyone,
Now we return to the Nightkin project, and today I am to introduce the first child born to the Nightkin since the Sundering, Blueberry.
This little bean was born mere months into the Nightkin rehabilitation efforts as enacted by the Equestrian Crown, and is the daughter of Cranberry- the very doe that raised the alarm about the horrendous event in a chance meeting with Princess Luna herself when she was visiting Baltimare.
Blueberry is typical of Nightkin fawns, leggy, slim, somewhat delicate, and rather intelligent for a child. Fawns grow up very fast compared to pony foals and continue to mature rapidly from there. Blueberry is only 6 years old at this point but is already as tall as a teenage pony.
Yet, deer of any kind are not possessed of long lifespans and will usually be only a memory by the time they hit their 60th birthday. This is the price they pay for their rapid growth and maturation.
Blueberry is the result of the union between Cranberry, a Nightkin doe, and a rather eccentric earth pony stallion by the name of Clean Sweep, the former janitor at the office that Cranberry used to work at in Baltimare.
The whole family now lives in Sire’s Hollow, where Cranberry is now the quartermaster for New Sanctuary castle, which, while almost complete, is still technically being constructed just outside of Sire’s Hollow. Cranberry, who used to work in logistics, warehousing and exports, has the perfect credentials for the role.
Her husband, Clean Sweep, has taken the role as one of the head servants in the castle - which is technically more of a supervisory role than anything else, but he will happily take orders from Seaweed, the senior butler to the Lady, and the Lady herself. Clean has not a little OCD, and is rather persistent in his efforts to keep everything “spick and span.”
When it comes to Blueberry, she is a friendly and outgoing fawn with little to no fear of the unknown, happily exploring the tranquil forests that surround her home of Sire’s Hollow with her friends. Smart, quick-thinking and streetwise with a caring streak a mile wide, Blueberry has already made an impression within the Lady’s family itself.
The key to this is that she has two small nubs on top of her head, hidden by her mane, which is where antlers are already beginning to grow. This is a great omen for the Nightkin and marks her as someone that may be destined for great things, perhaps as the next Lady in the future. Lady Nightshade herself, and by extension, Dame Oleander are watching with great interest, and more importantly, hope.
For now, though, Blueberry will live her life free of fear, get her education, and have fun with her friends. She will decide who she wants to be in due time.
