It was time for AJ to have another get together with King Trafalgar Maximilian Augustus Leopold the III in my Equestria dreamscape.
Based on her recent success the mare decided she’d surprise his Majesty by greeting him already in her mouse form >>3341545s and wearing the recent fashion combination she come up with by mix and matching the elements she’d gotten at Abigail Seams boutique during a recent journey out into the Dream Realm.
So now AJ sat on the front porch watching the swallows swoop and dive around the barnyard chasing bugs. The sounds of their chirps filled the late summer afternoon air. Applejack always wondered when his Majesty knew to show up, but he never seemed to keep her waiting long.
Even as she pondered this she spied him walking up to farmhouse and barn. Applejack could see the king looking around at the changes she’d had made to her dream fabric. The farmhouse no longer loomed over him like some massive cyclopian structure. It was much more normal in its proportions. Upon seeing AJ sitting on the porch the king picked up his pace.
For this evening his Majesty was definitely going casual. Khaki pants with covered the tops of low, lace up boots of brown leather. A light cream or ivory button up shirt was tucked into the pants that were cinched up by a belt of brown leather. A rather scuffed up jacket of brown leather and similarly brown, battered, wide brimmed Akubra-style hat rested a top his head.
“Applejack my dear! You’ve made some amazing changes to your homestead!” He paused and looked her up and down. “And that’s a most fetching outfit you’re wearing tonight.” He grinned. “And a most fortuitous choice since I think it will fit in most nicely for where I was thinking of taking you tonight.”
AJ blushed a little. “Ah shucks sugar cube, that’s really nice of ya ta say that. Oh! And check this out!” She turned sideways and cocked hips a little so the king could see that her cutie marks were now equally visible in this form now. “Now I have my apples in this here form as well. I’ll have ta take a stab at seeing if can git them ta appear as an embroidered elements on my other getups! But that’s why fer tanight I decided ta wear these here bikini bottoms so ya could see them!”
Trafalgar pursed his lips slightly and nodded his head. “Yes Applejack. Yes. You most correct in your observation. They definitely flatter your overall appearance.”
AJ turned and faced the king. “So what r ya thinking of fer grub tanight?” She then looked over the king’s shoulder and down the road. “And where’s yer friend Galapagos?”
The king chuckled. “He won’t be joining us tonight. He’s not really fond of spicy food. It disturbs his constitution something fierce, and besides parking is always a hassle at this establishment.”
AJ pushed her stetson-style hat. “Parkin?”
“You’ll understand when you get there. Many who visit it use some form of vehicle or riding mount to get there. As a result finding a place for Galapagos to rest and eat outside is always such a bother. Also I want you to know fair Applejack. We’ll be visiting a much more rambunctious place tonight, but I assure you that most of folks there are more bark than bite. Once one gets past some of their prickly personas they’re an amicable bunch. Rough around the edges but trustworthy folks!”
Then king extended his hand. “Of which. Shall we be on our way?”
Applejack took the king’s hand and once again she felt world ripple and roil. When it stopped the farmstead was gone. AJ found herself and the king standing alongside a road paved in some dark grayish material that was alien to AJ. The road was bisected by a series of white dashes. The road ran off in two directions until it disappeared on the horizon. Gone were rolling green hills and rows of apple trees. In their place was flat, arid land dotted with dry, scruffy patches of brush. It was later in the day and sun was dipping below the horizon in the west filling the sky with fiery oranges and yellows.
A deep growl behind AJ caused her to spin around just in time to be suddenly blinded as several searing white lights bursted into life. The source of sound and light came from what AJ initially mistaken in the low light for being some long, large, squarish shed. That was until it started rolling past her on multiple steel wheels that appeared to be sheathed in those newfangled vulcanized rubber tires that Twilight had occasionally mentioned. The vehicle reminded AJ of one of those new-fangled steam wagons she’d seen at the county fair last year. Although this thing was many times larger. Also it had a long, slab side trailer behind it that was made of metal sheeting that rolled on multiple wheels of similar construction.
Hissing and growling the rolling leviathan left a cloud of dust behind it as it moved over the gravel expanse at the side of the road. It stopped at the edge of road for a second; then with an even greater roar it turned right and headed down the road. As it did it let loose two thunderous blast from numerous horns. Then roared off into the distance. Its trailing red lights slowly vanishing into the distance.
As the giant vehicle’s sound faded away AJ was suddenly aware of other sights and sounds. There was a large, stone, single-story building set back some distance from the road on the other side of the vast gravel covered lot. The lot itself was filled numerous strange vehicles and riding mounts. What looked like giant chickens with saddles were tied up next to great riding lizards. As she stared in wonderment a strange whirring sound from above could be heard. Looking up she watched as a bizarre flying machine descended from the darkening skies on what looked like a windmill turned on its side. It landed in the far back of the lot kicking up a great cloud of dust.
“And here’s where we’ll be dining tonight!” Trafalgar made a sweeping gesture toward the building. Perched on top of the roof of said building was a sign with lettering that appeared to be made of bent glowing red hot rods. It read.
Bombay Bombastic’s Barbecue.
The king took AJ’s hand. “Now let’s get ourself a table or at least a place at the bar. In the evening this fine establishment becomes packed.”
As they approached the building AJ started hearing a rhythmic thumping coming from it. As they grew closer she realized it was music. This was made abundantly clear when the double doors of the establishment opened up and out stepped an individual who paused in the doorway and yelled back in over the music that now flooded out into the lot.
“Eh! Good night Bombay! Thanks fer the grub!” Numerous farewells and cheers could be heard coming from within. The individual turned around and AJ suddenly realized that they were a bat. The bat squinted and gave her looking up and down and grinned.
“Well ain’t ya sight ta behold. Eh! Pity you’re arriving when I have ta fly. Hope ya come back again. Would like ta meet ya again!”
He then placed a pair of battered goggles over his eyes. With that accomplished he tightened the chin strap of his tight fitting, padded leather helmet. Then he launched himself into the rapidly darkening skies.
The king opened the door and led AJ in. The interior was lit dimly by numerous, but rather ineffectual glowing lamps that appeared to be arcane in nature. The smell of burning mesquite wafted throughout the interior. The decor was this odd mixture of ranch-style and roadhouse cafe. Much to AJ’s surprise the source of the music appeared to be coming from a giant, brightly lit, music box-like contraption that sat on the floor by the bar. It boomed out a loud, boisterous tune.
From the bar a voice boomed out. The voice was attached to a slightly rotund, dark brown, male mouse with very large mutton chops and an almost lion-like mane of black hair on his head and face. He flashed a toothy grin and overall he possessed a rather roguish appearance. The mouse started walking toward the king.
“Trafalgar you old rascal! How are doing and….” There voice tapered off. “And who’s this glorious vision you’ve brought to my fine place tonight? You should’ve given me a warning I would’ve cleaned up the place better!”
The mouse gave AJ a little salute. “Allow me to introduce myself miss. I’m Bombay Bombastic! And welcome to my den of mischief and merriment! Oh and food and drink too! Now who do I have the pleasure of meeting this evening?”
“Um, name is Applejack.” AJ said. “And uh thanks fer the greetings.
Bombay glanced down at AJ red bikini briefs and then looked her in the eyes. “Normally we require customers to wear pants, but we’ll make an exception for you.”
AJ giggled a little and rubbed the back of her head with a free hand. “That’s mighty kind of ya ta do that fer me. Cuz normally I don’t wear pants.”
Bombay looked over at Trafalgar. “Well. I can see why you like her!” The king grinned and shook his head.
“It’s more complicated than that Bombay. I’ll enlighten you later.”
Bombay then promptly turned around at the top his voice he boomed out. “Okay you riff-raff listen up!” He pointed at AJ” This is Applejack! She’s a special guest of Bombay Bombastic’s Barbecue! So I want you all on your best behavior around her! Got it!”
All conversations came to an abrupt halt and Applejack was suddenly very aware of every individual in the establishment staring at her very intently. Then Bombay turned back to her and the king. “Now let get you 2 a place to sit shall we!”
To be continued.
