On April 12, 1961, the Soviet fighter jet pilot chosen to be trained and promoted to a cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin, has reached the Earth orbit, fully lapped around a planet and safely returned. This day made its way in history as The Cosmonautics Day.
Later, in 1970, a remote-controlled rover “Lunokhod-1” (Moon Walker) was sent to explore the Moon’s surface. Despite the low framerate and high input delay, the crew on Earth managed to complete the research and conduct many more as the machine operated for almost entire year.
Both cameras were aimed at the ground in front of the Lunokhod, so we don’t know for sure if somepony took a joyride on its top.
