The royal sisters, despite being alive when the first Hearthswarming happened, never had many years to truly celebrate it. At least relatively, compared to their long lives. They never spent it with their parents, since the holiday didn’t gain traction until they had already started ruling Equestria. Celestia and Luna (and sometimes Starswirl) celebrated the holiday when they could, sometimes with other ponies, but it was most often on their own. Their royal status and absence of family usually made the holiday feel empty to them, especially when compared to their subjects. As the years went by, Celestia and Luna would have their own little Hearthswarming, and make appearances at the Canterlot holiday festivities. That is, until Nightmare Moon. Celestia, now without any family, stopped celebrating Hearthswarming all together. She would still make appearances, sometimes, but she never cared about actually celebrating anymore. Hearthswarming was about unity, and family, both things she had broken.
After a thousand years, Celestia was used to not celebrating the holiday. With Luna’s encouragement, they started celebrating again, and both of them learning and participating in the new traditions. Though, it still didn’t feel like a real Hearthswarming, especially since they didn’t get much time away from their royal duties. One year, Celestia ends up visiting The Gift Givers of the Grove, a trio of magical reindeer that she had only known in passing, looking for help.
Years later, Celestia and Luna now head up north, beyond where most ponies would go, to spend Hearthswarming. They’re able to truly enjoy the holiday, spending it together with their newly expanded families. Bori, along with Aurora and Alice, are definitely a huge help in teaching the sisters what Hearthswarming is all about.
This is pretty much a follow up to my Hearthswarming drawing I made two years ago! Not sure if anyone was invested in the “mystery” I created with who Northern Wishes and Periwinkle’s other parent was (it was open to see on other sites anyways) but heres Luna and Celestia’s families! I’ve gotten super attached to these two, they’re definitely a few of my favorites from figureverse. I also really love Bori/Celestia, which came to be just because I love those two characters, but I’ve grown to love the dynamic I created for them waughhhh
There’s Luna’s family as well! I’m hoping explore more of Luna’s and Celestias families in the figureverse sometime! (Background was taken and edited from the show)
