I’m tweaking a few things, but the situation of her birth is still pretty much the same. Basically, she was an accident who was entirely unwanted by her mother, Bronze Buckshot, but Bronze was pressured into having her anyway. Suki was sent to live with her father just a few months after she was born, and her father, Arko, loved her to bits. She grew up in Yakyakistan, speaking Yakish and enjoying her father’s culture, blissfully unaware of her mother’s identity. The yaks adored little Suki, and Arko’s family welcomed her as one of their own.

When Suki was eight, Bronze came back to retrieve her. The guilt at abandoning her child had been eating at her, and to make matters worse, her family had found out that she’d dropped the kid with its father. She’d told them the baby hadn’t survived, and they were furious about Bronze lying to cover up her irresponsibility. They demanded that she raise the child herself. Hoping to get back in her family’s good graces and finally stop losing sleep wondering what had become of the baby, Bronze complied.

Arko was devastated at losing Suki, and Suki didn’t want to leave, but Bronze promised them both that Arko could visit Equestria any time he wanted to see her– though she really hoped he wouldn’t. He did visit, of course, at least once a month, until frequent avalanches made travel to and from Yakyakistan impossible. Every time they got close to clearing the way for travel, another wave of snow would block their path. It was almost like something wanted to keep them in… or out. Arko’s last visit was on Suki’s fourteenth birthday, after which she never saw him again.

Between Arko’s visits, as we know, Suki’s home life wasn’t great. Her mother was… not a good mother. Thankfully, Suki had her best friend Strudel, and Strudel’s family, to look out for her. Strudel’s parent, Lamington, frequently fought off Bronze’s attempts to isolate Suki or bully her into submission when she did something Bronze didn’t like. They and their sister Jaffle made sure Suki’s mother never went too far, and that Suki always had somewhere to go if she didn’t feel safe.
