New minor character, this is Akira, the Captain of Love Letter’s royal guard
She was a Crystal Pony from ancient times, and was lost when the Crystal Empire vanished. She was of course brought back when Cadence restored the Empire, making her about a decade older than Love.
Akira’s parents were killed by Sombra when she was very young, and since then, she has craved vengeance, leading her to seek out Queen Love Letter. Akira would do anything for Love without question. She’d even kill for her.
All of Love’s guards scar their faces with an “L” or “V” marking (depending on how you look at it) beneath their eyes. This is to remind them who they are loyal to, a willing demonstration to Love Letter that they will bleed and scar for her. Akira however is the one exception- she has not scarred either side of her face, but does wear the paint symbolically around her eyes. This is so that she can function as Love Letter’s spy without being detected.
Given that she’s technically several centuries old, she is actually very distantly related to Celestia. Not directly, but Akira’s bloodline and Celestia’s would find a common ancestor somewhere up there. She’s also even more distantly related to Tempest. Neither Tempest or Celestia would ever know that, but even if they did, the blood relation is so minor that it probably wouldn’t even show up on a DNA test. Still, just a fun fact.
Akira was made a slave by Sombra’s mind control magic. Something that’s really important to her, because of that, is free will. She supports Love’s cause in freeing the Crystal Ponies of Cadence’s similar mind magic, and the choice to serve Love was completely her own.
Her magical affinity is related to machinery, but she has trained her magic in the art of combat, to better serve her Queen.
Love is usually the one to enact her own execution orders, because if you can’t, you’re a coward of a ruler, and you don’t deserve to wear the crown. However, when she’s not there for whatever reason, Akira takes on all of her duties, rather than Flurry Heart (not that Flurry would ever). It is technically within Love Letter’s right as an all-powerful Queen to appoint whoever she wants as her heir. And while she hasn’t named an heir yet, it’s interesting that Akira seems more like her heir than any of Love’s biological family.
