While much if not all of Season 9 of MLP: FiM was garbage, “The Last Problem” really takes the cake. An unnecessary timeskip, ridiculous future character designs, the promise that Twilight wouldn’t outlive her friends being obviously broken, Twilight having no further control over her life and destiny, a repetition of history with Luster Dawn and her “character arc” if you can even call it that, and a terrible lesson to accept big change, no matter how horrible it may be. This is a disgrace. No self-respecting fan of MLP should accept this trash for a second. This is why Hasbro needs to officially revise this season and its related materials on our terms. They have betrayed and insulted us for the last time.

Honestly, it’s probably better off that none of the main characters get married in the end. And especially not Fluttershy and Discord. Discord doesn’t deserve someone as sweet and kind as Fluttershy.

I agree.
In my headcannon, the Mane 6 all be alicons. And married. Rainbow to Soarin, Flurtershy to Dyscord, Pinkie to Cheese, Rarity to Smarty Pants, and Twylight to Flash. Applejack? Hmmmm. Maybe someone new. And Fizzy appears as captain of the guard.

Two things about the ending annoy me the most:
  1. What started as a suggestion to meet “once a moon” became a decree. Would have been so much better if their friendship was maintained because of their love and devotion to it, not because it was made into law
  2. They couldn’t have tried to make their voices sound older in the time skip? Would have given more of a sense of aging than making them sound the same

The ending just sucked in general, I think it would have been better received if it had done away with the framing device and had just been about Twilight leaving Ponyville. It still would have raised a lot of people’s hackles, but not nearly as much.

This guy’s entire DA profile is just him crying about stuff from MLP. I thought it was fine and ended in a way that allowed for a future continuation if they so chose to do that. The Cozy Glow, Chrysalis, and Tirek outcome could have been altered for sure… but Discord took 1000+ years before the princesses gave him a chance and he was just causing chaos and not actively trying to destroy and enslave everyone. It’s certainly possible that the mane 6 would attempt to reform them over time or perhaps jail them as opposed to petrifying them later. Realistically though, the princesses probably forgot about Discord until the CMC inadvertently caused him to break free. But Celestia had a lot to manage on her own in that time.
The time skip was more about being free to live your own lives but you don’t have to forgo your friendships to do that. You can still be friends even if you don’t constantly hang out or even do much together. Friendship isn’t picky like that.

Okay I certainly wouldn’t say ALL of Season 9 was bad. But this entire conclusion to the series was TERRIBLE! And I have to agree with you that the time skip thing was COMPLETELY unnecessary. Because it’s an animated series which makes age changes unneeded. The fact that instead of redeeming Cozy Glow, Chrysalis and Tirek (actually I still don’t care what happens to that jerk) they just turned them into stone and it’s even worse that they all act like it never even happened. But the point is that they even turned Cozy Glow into stone who doesn’t deserve a fate like that. I know she was evil. But she’s just a child. And she was the villain who was the most redeemable. I just hope that at least SOMEBODY could recreate this series finale and make it something better. And yes even if it was just fan made.
