Moment of Honesty: I personally hate Gilda because
characters should never be plot devices - admit it, her sole role was to be a bully, she deserved more;
she was badly developed, if any developed - for real, I wanted to see a character or a good villain, not just an asshole out of the blue;
not just Fluttershy, but the mane cast is a bunch of goodie-shoes, but I have yet to understand what’s so awesome in being a sandy, soggy asshole…
BUT, bronies hate either Fluttershy or Gilda ONLY because of that pathetic scene made just to show how much cruel Gilda was. Heck, Gilda is mean, she’d do that to everypony safe Rainbow Dash. Completely unnecessary to make her scream at her face, Gilda could just have been scolded her off:
Gilda: Mind your business and your pace, pony! Now back off! pushes her
Fluttershy: stumbles I’m so sorry…
Pinkie: gets to Fluttershy Fluttershy, what did she do?
Fluttershy: I’m okay, I just… lowers head and walks away
Pinkie: I knew it, she was a meanie! But how to solve it… Yes! A PARTAY!
Yes, Gilda could be really awesome if she wasn’t just a bully to show off Rainbow Dash’s loyalty, when the latter was the one to actually learn something in this episode. Gilda in the role of the worthless bully, just like Lightning Dust, is a result of Rainbow Dash’s poor judgement because she only bases her new friend choices on (apparent) awesomeness rather than faithfulness.
As for Fluttershy, like I like to point everywhere, people like to work her out because she’s the easiest to develop (and yes, a shy person trying to overcome their fears is an overrated yet common subject in real life). When a character is worked out, they automatically become more likeable, no matter the flaws. I feel clearly that people think she’s a maresue or overrated because developement is just so lacking in this show fandom got used to it, so anything more is overdoing.
