I was recently invited to join in on the “More Most Dangerous Game” fanfic competition on Equestria Daily and Fimfiction by offering up a commission as a prize to one of the winning entries. The above is the result, a commission for the talented Carabas based on his short story “The Motion of the Stars”. The idea of the contest was to do a thematic spin on famous (or infamous) fanfics from within the community, and his took its cues from the wildly popular “Fallout: Equestria”, spinning out an original tale of two familiar sisters surviving in a shattered landscape. It is a story about loss, hope, devotion and, of course, generosity. Do give it a read!

While somewhat grim in subject matter, this image was an enjoyable departure for me from my usual works. I tried to give it a grittier feel, straight off the cover of some pulp magazine without going so harsh as to drown out the appeal of marshmallow pony sisters. No matter how dark the world they may inhabit, the heart of these characters is one of light, something I needed to convey in the image to stay true to the story. I’m glad that Carabas was happy with the result!
