‘You’ve got two days, then back into the arena. I suggest you make the most of your time and try to get some rest.’

Groaning Lars lay down into her bed of crushed straw, a luxury that was infinitely better than the blood and sweat soaked mattress that had been there sense the dawn of time and slept in by just as many bodies. Her wounds had closed but her muscles still protested when she tried to use them at anywere near half strength. That and the fog still lingered in her head, clouding her thoughts making everything hazy amd slow to process.

With a deep sigh she lay back, stretching out her back and letting her abdominals stretch. The sensation of muscle pinging with overused protest was a sweet sort of pain, as blowing out a held breath she was able to relax and after a few moments drift off into a blissful sleep.

She awoke to a chirping beep, something that reflexively made her mind snap to full alert - landmine! Where, time to disarm the electronic proximity detonator? Location? Sniper, combatants?

Eyes snaping open Lars sat bolt up in her cushioned hospital bed, the light blue blankets flying off her as she drew in gasping breaths. Scanning the room for- for what? A threat? A target? Here?

With the haze the dream and memory were quickly fading, and with their departure familiar smells crept back in: the sterl disinfectant, the soap and sanitizer, and, tickling her nose the robust smell of a wolf that she new as lingering somewhere in the room. Wisely keeping out of sight, and, out making for a difficult target for any stray object she may send his way.

Falling back into the soft embrace of her bedding, Lars pulled the blankets back up over her bare chest. The hospital had taken her clothes, and then her grown as well after her fist escape attempt.

Though now she missed the open back sheet of fabric that she had been clad in before. As at least it had kept the wandering eyes of her guardian off her chest.

You have one chance.

That was the simplest rule of any escape attempt, do one had to get the plan right the first time. And she had almost made it too. It had been a good plan, just, bad timing with an uncertain variable that had come in the form of a maroon colored vixen that had been brought in just as she was trying to get out. Three more steps and she would have been able to vault down the stares, dissappear into traffic and then make a sprint for the bridge. A jump would have taken her into the water below, and from there she could have held onto the badge and used it to pull herself along to one of the surrounding docks. It still made her smile to think about it, she had almost succeeded, but hadn’t, instead taking a tazer burst in the back that had left her twitching on the floor.

Still it had been nice to try and stretch her legs, give her mind something to do other than lay on her back and let the antibiotics pump through her system. Looking around she gruffy addressed the room at large. And the locking predator just out of sight.

‘Next time.’
