Decided I would design Beaureguard’s father. I based the Merpony design on the ones from the mlp comics.  
This is Fallen Star, he loves astrometry and star gazing.  
I have this little head cannon that while female merponies wear pearls and jewels to look pretty, the males make coral and other sea life grow on them. Some have only a little on them so they can have better moveability, while others pack it on like armour. All the while trying to make it look as good as possible to attract a mate. Rarity meets Star and is intrigued by the fashion trends of the sea, and makes it her mission to learn more about them. As time goes on, she and Star fall in love. Rarity decides to live in the ocean with him and Twilight turns her into a merpony (though her front half still has hooves). Every so often she’ll meet and hangout with her friends but as the years pass, their meet ups get pushed further and further apart until they stop contacting each other. Then, some years later, Twilight receives a letter.
