G5’s movie was better than fim’s was because Hasbro did a crappy job with the story for the fim movie and the fim movie’s new characters looked stupid. A monkey, a bird and a fish pony? Really Hasbro? That’s the best you can do? Pathetic. Only Tempest Shadow looked fine in the movie and even she wasn’t enough to save the fim movie. And Tempest only made 2 cameos in the fim TV series after the movie ended due to the fim series being almost over when the movie released.

Now if the fim movie had aired between Season 3 and Season 4 of fim then there’s no doubt that Tempest Shadow would’ve gotten much more episodes in fim than she did and that probably would’ve been enough to tip the scales into G4’s favor but they released the movie far too late into the series when fim was almost over and thanks to that, it gave G5 the chance to stomp out G4 for good when Zipp Storm arrived on the scene in the G5 movie and fans have taken an liking to Zipp Storm in G5 since then.

This has been my expectation going into it. Still haven’t seen it so I can’t say, but, I would be surprised for this one to be substantially better then the first movie. We shall see if it holds.

100% agree! That would have been the time to release a film with a chance of doing well. The 2017 movie was in a odd place of being larger profile then a small niche production but not quite the full budget, marketing, or audience to call it fully mainstream as much as it overly tried to be. Speaking of that…

I would actually be willing to put forth that it’s wonky just outside of mainstream status made it vulnerable. No one needed to be pleased with the 2017 movie and thus a quick review dismissing it was a day off that weekend or whatever. Not to mention other stupid things (not fully 3D movie = bad) that could have hurt it unfairly. As for reviews being inflated, totally wouldn’t surprise me.

Honestly, never have used it much, It’s going to be a reflection of the mainstream trends and bias regardless if they intervene or not. Still, 60 or 70 critical reviews from a similar sample is easily verifiable data that could be used to compare with the 2017 movie.

I just watched it and I have a hard time believing critics would really unanimously give it a perfect score.  
It wasn’t bad. It was an acceptable kids flick. It wasn’t anything groundbreaking or revolutionary, I still think if g4 had gotten a movie,a real movie and not a spinoff,during season 3 or 4,it probably could’ve been something special. Maybe broken through the mainstream and been popular outside mlp fans.

I’ve seen a lot of shenanigans with Netflix stuff. One show that was “So popular” they needed to make 10 articles a day shilling it had audience scores all a 5-stars that just said “Go lesbians” and other repeating phrases and only ever reviewed that show - so, I don’t really trust RottenTomatoes anymore.

We shall see if the 100% rating holds. It’d be nice if this got a lot of the same outlets as before for a point of comparison but I wounder if it being a Netflix release will restrict it? If it ends with something like 70% + that will feel unfair to the MLP movie; I don’t consider it a ultimate masterpiece but I think it was something that was far from deserving of the treatment it got.

I haven’t seen the G5 movie, so I can’t reference. I will be surprised though if I like G5 over the 2017 movie.

Plenty of reasons I could see someone not liking the 2017 film and considering it a mess, (though I wouldn’t characterize it that way). I think it’s main weakness is the boiler plate plot points and celebs over emphasis. Not to detract from my complaint; it still stands that this film was treated unusually bad by the critics considering how much other completely generic stuff flies and this still had a lot going for it (unique mostly 2D animation style in a sea of 3d, fairly well designed locations and new characters) to at least get it a AVERAGE rating.

The movie was fine, and unlike the 2017 film it wasn’t a mess.

When “Critics” are in 100% agreement, there’s usually something wrong.
 
Same people says Ghsotbusters 2016, and Last Jedi were fantastic films?

A super majority positive rating with 5000+ respondents is still good. And I don’t take critic responses into account. It’ll be interesting to see what the score does when more people get ratings in.

I didn’t think the g4 movie was anything amazing. I haven’t seen A New Generation yet, but my favorite mlp movie was Rainbow Rocks.
