Gaurdian of Light
I have been so swamped and like not able to finish anything this past week or so, and I want back into the groove of working on my auroraverse, so here’s a bit of backstory for the name of the universe, Aurora Star getting her cutie mark! Also I really need to start practicing backgrounds again :P

Aurora was a late bloomer, well into her teens and her flank remained blank. It didn't bother the mare much, until she left the seclusion of Giver's Grove and into the nearby towns covered in ponies, rather than the majority of Reindeer and Yak she was used to. Mares and stallions whispered as she passed and younger colts and fillies laughed or questioned her lack of cutie mark. Aurora had just never found a purpose, something that filled her with so much love and light and while it was uncommon, it wasn't unheard of for a pony to just not get a cutie mark and maybe she wasn't even gonna find that thing that made her special. Aurora sometimes felt useless as a unicorn her magic was very limited, she could only levitate light objects and even some basic spells were beyond her skill. Maybe her destiny was just trapped beyond her lack of ability. 



However, she sometimes would see flashes, images, sounds of things that didn't make sense to her and after many years when finally one of the scenes that played behind her eyes came to pass in the world, she visited the matriarchs of the grove hoping to find answers to her condition. It was the kindly, old reindeer with whom Aurora shared her name that smiled and took the young unicorn out to the high edge of the grove. Being so far in the frozen north was dangerous, feral creatures and dark magic lingered in the cold wasteland, it was one such location that was much wilder and more ancient than a majority of Equestria. The matriarchs of the grove had a powerful light magic that kept their home safe from those dangers and it came in the form of beautiful sky lights. 



Aurora flustered when the old reindeer suggested she attempt to recreate the protective lights, and had to explain that her magic wasn't close to good enough to make something that powerful. A knowing chuckle came from Aurora's companion who insisted that she took the feeling the light gave her and try to channel her magic with the same feeling. Aurora not wanting to disrespect or disappoint someone she looked up to dearly, turned her eyes towards the sky and focused, the northern lights had always given her a sense of ease and peace but didn't they do that for everyone? 


Aurora was amazed when the pink light morphed and changed taking on the colors of a rainbow, she turned to the matriarch not really believing it was her doing but the soft, proud smile on her face confirmed that Aurora was indeed the one preforming this magic. A reverence filled the purple mare like nothing had before and when she had finished, the elder Aurora pointed to her newly marked flank. 


It seemed that Aurora was one of the few who inherited the ability to create the protective magic that kept the grove and it's inhabitants safe and her flashes of the future weren't a surprise because it was just another way to warn her about potential dangers or major events that might affect the world balance. Aurora was so happy to finally feel at home in her own skin and to have a purpose. She was nervous to have such a big responsibility but with the guidance of the reindeer matriarchs, she knew she could grow into her role.
