This image here is the show bible Lauren Faust showed to Hasbro employees for a new MLP generation. A generation that defined the franchise as well as growing one of the largest fanbases. But here’s a thought that has been pondering my mind. What if Hasbro rejected Lauren’s greatest idea? How would generation 4 be different had Hasbro accepted someone else’s idea for G4? It’s possible that their designs would have looked similar previous gens had; semi realistic equines. Would the small fanbase love or hate this alternate G4?
It would have been likely fan sites such as ED, Ponibooru, Derpibooru, ponychan, etc. wouldn’t have existed. The famous term “brony” wouldn’t have existed either. MLP conventions such as Bronycon wouldn’t have been established. Lots of content creators wouldn’t have existed. People like me would have had a very different life had G4 been a forgettable line of the franchise.
What do you think would have happened if G4 took an alternate turn than the one we got?
The Internet will be more likely dominated by anime and videogames, and would be more male-dominated
Furry-ism may be more visible, but not as popular as it is now
LGBT and leftist movements might take longer to be more prominent, only to become more active if economic problems fuel Trump’s election. These might be fuelled by FIM’s popularity.
Society may be a bit more conservative for a little longer
Neckbeardism will be relegated to videogames, hidden under the more-dominant, active gamers and their subcultures.
I would end up either as an Ah Beng or some gamer, but at least I won’t be that lonely or awkward. However, I would not be writing weird sci-fi without FIM, just run-of-the-mill US cliches.
There would also be no Vozonidcivilisation, and many characters in the Rabydosverse would not exist.
