Aurous was an odd one out, right from the start. Due to their reclusive nature, Kirens don’t have children with other species very often. So, when Aurous was born in Autumn Blaze’s Kirin village, every kirin in the area went to visit the newborn at least once to get a good look at him. Due to his other mother being a pony, Aurous did not inherit a kirin horn, but instead a pair of feathered wings, along with the brighter coloring associated with ponykind.
 
When Daring started a relationship with Autumn Blaze, she didn’t really think she’d become a parent through it. But the intrepid explorer was more than happy to stay in the kirin village with Autumn for a few years to raise their son. After that, the family of three continued their adventures exploring through the wilder parts of Equestria and beyond, forming friendships with the locals and fighting off poachers and thieves. Although neither of his parents ever said it outright, Aurous always had the feeling that one day he would have to take up Daring’s title as an intrepid explorer and famous adventurer. Many of the decisions he’s made about his life are based more on others expectations rather than his own wants.
 
Aurous here has dedicated much of his teenage/adult life to the preservation of artifacts, researching them heavily, and speaking with the local populations about the status of them. He’s found in his experience that depending on the local religions and rituals held by the people livng there, some prefer to keep their ancient relics in tombs and temples (where it is harder for them to be stolen) while others would rather have them close by, sometimes as a way to teach the younger generations about their history.
 
He has a tense relationship with his former friend and current rival, Itzli, the son of Doctor Caballeron and Ahuizotl. They were already expected to be at odds due to their parentage, but the boys had a surprisingly wholesome friendship together for most of their childhoods. It was only when they became teenagers that their priorities started to shift.
 
While Aurous takes great pride in protecting and defending priceless or ancient artifacts, Itzli has taken a liking to selling them to the highest bidder, or even anyone willing to pay well for his services in fetching it. He’s a master thief and stealthy enough to evade any kind of trap or security measure, despite his size.
