Original Description:

  1. Since recorded history began, ponies of Equestria never really thought much of marriage except simply accepting a new pony into the family. In Ancient Equestria, only the powerful leaders of the pony tribes sanctified marriage. More often then not, the important families of the earth, pegasus, and unicorns tribes united their own families with those of high status within their breed for the purpose of powerful alliances and iron clad control.
When two alicorns emerged and presented themselves to Equestria, the three pony tribes did not see omnificent ponies of legend, but rather something else entirely: pawns. The Pony Tribe Leaders wanted to keep these celestial beings within their control while also producing powerful offspring that would forever survive in legends. When Celestia and Luna reached adult age, Princess Platinum (as self-proclaimed speaker for the leaders) decided to propose (ahem demand) that if the sisters were to rule their lands, the sisters should marry members of the royalty of the Pony Tribe Leaders to solidify their reign and produce heirs. The alicorns’ first marriages and their ascend to their thrones ushered in the age of Old Equestria.

No pony knew that Princess Celestia and Princess Luna would continue beyond their spouses and even their first children, but nevertheless the sisters continued with their arranged marriages, forming alliances that benefited Equestria and beyond that lasted for years. Princess Celestia seemed to embrace these marriages, both the happiness and the devastations. Meanwhile, Princess Luna did not always agree with the arraignments, but she simply kept quiet and accepted her fate.

Old Equestria continued with the alicorn sisters together ruling and protecting Equestria, although the history goes as every pony knew. As the two sisters ruled side-by-side, ponies of Equestria portrayed Princess Celestia as the more omnipresent being, preferring the life giving sun over the cold darkness of the moon. Princess Luna saw this rejection as hatred from her pony subjects, and so with darkness consuming her being, Luna transformed into Nightmare Night, and after a colossal battle between the sisters, Princess Celestia banished her sister to the moon, ushering in the Celestian Age led by the almighty but lonely Princess Celestia.

  2. With the Celestian Age, the ponies of Equestria saw their princess as more than an alicorn, but rather a Goddess living among mortals. Princess Celestia embraced her goddess status wholeheartedly throughout her rule with Old Equestrian habits slowly fading away, including the once sought-after arranged marriages, for what creature could match the power of a goddess? Instead of being subjected to political ties only mortal ponies enforced upon each other, Princess Celestia never married, instead taking on lovers she chose, most of the names forgotten to history.

  3. The Celestian Age brought both new peace and new problems, all handled by Princess Celestia alone. However, even the celestial goddess Princess Celestia knew that change was part of nature, and eventually fate would bring about great change through magic. Along with ruling Equestria, Princess Celestia searched for signs of epic magic, for this brought about the creation of a new alicorn. Every century or so, the alicorn princess took on a “faithful student”, one that possibly held epic magic potential, although most fell short of alicorndom. Only two ponies seemed to radiate epic magic and become alicorns by their own right: Mi Amore Cadenza, and Twilight Sparkle.

The story goes that Princess Mi Amore Cadenza, or Cadence, and Prince Shining Armor fell in love and vowed themselves to each other in their youth; however, Princess Celestia did “insist” on their relationship, especially once the alicorn princess learned of Twilight Sparkle. Princess Celestia purposely pursued an interest with the Sparkle family, knowing these decendents of an Old Equestrian line would bring about great magical change.
Almost every creature in Equestria and beyond knows the story of the ascend of Princess Twilight Sparkle, and all was at peace. Without signs of more epic magic afoot, the four alicorns of Equestria simply ruled over their magic and their ponies, content with their roles in life. When Princess Twilight Sparkle approached Princess Celestia many years later with her own plans of marriage to Sunburst, the mentor only had this advice: marry for love, not obligation. However, things changed rather apruptly when Princess Cadence gave birth to the alicorn foal Nuova Speranza.

  4. Never in recorded Equestrian history, nor in the eternal lifetime of Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, was there a naturally born alicorn. Although the concept of alicorns was always mysterious, most ponies believed that alicorns were created through nature and magic, not naturally born. All four alicorns agreed to cautiously observe the new alicorn foal, watching for any unusual signs of power.
Princess Nuova Speranza, or “Flurry Heart” was truly a mysterious miracle. Fasicnation captured the creatures of Equestria and beyond at the first alicorn birth. Some ponies saw Princess Flurry Heart as a angelic symbol of hope, while others saw the foal as a spectacle to study, especially StarSwirl the Bearded. Inspired by the birth of Princess Flurry Heart, Starswirl the Bearded decided to experiment in the creation of alicorns, siring a foal with the only alicorn willing to experiment, Princess Luna. The birth of an alicorn colt, Prince Somnium, created even more wonder for the creatures of Equestria and beyond.

As the two “born” alicorns grew older, the ponies of Equestria adored and awed at these miracle alicorns. Prince Somnium and Princess Flurry Heart reveled in the adoration of their subjects. The two alicorns believed in their mighty status, that they truly were miracles of nature and should be treated as such. Once the two “born” alicorns reached adulthood, almost every pony across Equestria had one question: when was the wedding? Almost every pony throughout the land believed that if a male and female alicorn could naturally create offspring, then they might usher in a new age of alicorns, so clearly the two must marry and have a foal. Much to the surprise of their family, Prince Somnium and Princess Flurry Heart agreed to an arranged marriage to produce an heir, much like their ancestors many years. To the two “born” alicorns, uniting in marriage and producing an heir would give their lowly pony subjects a gift beyond their feeble imaginations. However, this arrangement was purely shallow, for neither alicorn loved each other, they simply tolerated each other for the sake of other’s curiosity. Behind closed doors, Prince Somnium and Princess Flurry Heart entertained a plethora of lovers. Only time will tell if the two alicorns will produce a foal to rival their own miraculous status, or would nature have other plans and leave any offspring to fade away to time.
