Midsummer Solstice and Wintertide Solstice, or the Solstice brothers for short. They aren’t blood related but treat each oas such due to their experiences. They often speak for each other and have a good sense of what the other is thinking. They work as a single unit, covering for any blind spot the other has.
When they are apart, they kind of fall apart. Midsummer is like a cornered animal, lashing out and desperately searching for his brother. Wintertide, on the other hand, would be terrified and hide somewhere dark until Midsummer found him. As they grow older, the distance and duration of separation is possible, though they show discomfort at being alone.
It’s taken them a lot of time to learn not to fear other ponies and how to act like normal ponies. They still tend to act in their own unique way but at the very least, they don’t barricade themselves in broom closets and set traps for anyone unlucky enough to get too close to their shelter.

Mids and Tides as foals. Its generally unclear what their life was like before being taken in but they weren’t treated well. Their village was very devout in their beliefs and used hardship and pain as a test for who was seen as worthy. The marks that the two bear are a testament to their struggles. The marks on the brothers mean they have passed the tests of ‘Endurance’ and ‘Deprivation’.
Neither is willing to tell anyone what the test entail other than that they overcame them.

Midsummer and Wintertide were brought to Canterlot by Commander Tempest Shadow, who had been on a journey around Equestria to right the wrongs of the Storm King. While on her journey, she stumbled upon a certain village and found the two foals. She doesn’t elaborate on what she found or why only two foals were left from an entire village. When asked, she states that the village is no longer a threat.
Mids and Tides were terrified to leave their home but also weren’t willing to stay. It took weeks for them to get used to being around others. Shockingly, it was Tide’s that opened up first, mostly with the help of Fluttershy who helped the wild foals adjust to life around others.
Wintertide and Midsummer switching shifts with the night guard. They get stopped by Halbert and Northwind, who are curious about the two. Mids isn’t keen on talking but Tides, the more sociable of the two, responds. They later become work friends who are actually capable of talking to the strange duo.
