It is. There are some good designs for medieval pony armor that balances protection and mobility, but when it comes to modern armor I haven’t seen any that look particularly useful. Not that I’m innocent of this either, all I can think of is ballistic caparisons.

I got reeed at once for saying that on Derpi. If I remember correctly, the main thrust of the angry comment was that realistic horse armor designs were only practical because the rider was the one doing the actual fighting.

I still think copying the basic design of ballistic or stab vests from human versions is weird. Ponies’ necks are much more likely to get hit, being so close to center of mass. Not to mention how big a target their sides present.
