Description
Draconequui are cryptic lifeforms capable of harnessing elementary aspects of the Universe and bend them to their will. They can summon a single slice of your grandmother’s cherry pie onto a battlefield that explodes on impact into a pile of dirty socks, or they can open a black hole in your living room. They can traverse space and time with ease, and can basically perform acts of every stretch of conscious imagination. However, they are not natural beings - rather they are created by dark magic. The spell is relatively simple in principle; collect the parts of living things and combine them using a massive amount of energy. In truth, it makes sense why there are only two draconequus.
-In order to summon a draconequus, it must be given a purpose: in Discord’s case, it was to be the embodiment of chaotic magic. One writes it in their own blood, and throws it amongst the parts gathered to form the draconequus. This will bind the creature to you as the creator. However…you have to be very careful in how you word this, or the draconequus will act against your wishes. The process requires a LOT of energy; an amount no lifeform can produce nor control. HOWEVER, artifacts can manipulate this energy, and as it stands, only one artifact is known to be enough: the Bewitching Bell.
Discord:
-Using the Bewitching Bell, made by an unknown being of infinite power, Grogar created Discord using parts of the five reigning races of creature: sheep, griffins, dragons, deer and ponies. Grogar had intended to use Discord as a weapon of mass destruction during the Sheep-Pony Wars, but Discord simply had better things to do and ditched his bewildered warlord. What occurred afterward is thousands of years of Discord figuring out himself and the world he was summoned into. Discord used to view the world with a cruel detachment, and it took him a long time to grasp the concept of death. One can only imagine the horrors he wrought onto the world simply to understand his own abilities. He laments this period in his life greatly, but even now, he struggles with understanding mortality.

-Immortal beings can be identified by a mark on their chests. Discord’s is shaped like a Chaos Star - and kind of resembles Twilight’s cutie mark, although she WILL point out that there are essential differences.
-Discord had a huge crush on Tirek, and backed him up in teasing Scorpan for the goody-two-shoes he is. While at the castle, Discord acted as the Royal family’s jester, trying to get the attention of the humorless Tirek.
-When Discord met the bearers of the Elements, he thought they’d just be another ragtag group of losers incapable of hurting him. However, using the Harmony magic stored in the Elements, he was thwarted and later reformed by the sheer threat of loneliness and the promise of friendship. Still, he is a trickster that takes advantage of friendship often, and he sure loves to antagonize Twilight. Twilight is the glue that holds his means of imprisonment together (something he tried to break apart in his debut episodes), and that tension gives him cause to get under her skin. He is truly terrified of being turned to stone again, but his nature is to poke at things he shouldn’t. It’s also just a coping mechanism over his fear. Over time, Discord genuinely connects with and cares for the ponies, but Fluttershy suffers worst from his bad habits. It’s not Fluttershy’s fault, nor a bad quality to be discouraged in the least, but her kindness can bite her sometimes and it usually does when it comes to Discord. He is just the type to manipulate, overpower or otherwise get her to do what he wants.
-Fluttershy is not the first of Discord’s loves, but she is the first to reciprocate his feelings. No pressure Fluttershy; you’re bfs just a super clingy, emotionally stunted veritable god of chaos. Nothing you can’t handle, right?
-Discord’s Magic is illusionary - sort of like a 4D experience for those afflicted by it. The effects are obvious: those targeted by his magic are convinced down to the finest detail that what they see and feel is real. Discord is capable of high magic; including true transfiguration, traversing dimensions, conjuration, levitation and so on. However, most of the chaos he evokes is master-level illusion. His illusions are capable of inflicting pain, nightmares etc. Sort of like how the venom injected by a tarantula hawk doesn’t actually cause physical harm, but instead tricks the mind into thinking it is in extreme pain. What makes this distinct from transfiguration is the ease in which it is reversed, and upon reversal, there are no side-effects. This is seen in Return to Harmony Pt. 2 when Twilight’s shield creates a hole of normalcy among the chaos. It’s simply reversing illusion magic.
-All draconequui are constructed of fundamental particles which compose the “background” energy of the Universe. Discord’s physical form is genuine - however, it is malleable and easily transferred between dimensions. Further, it is a powerful magical conduit that can tolerate all sorts of harmful stimuli. In other words, Discord has full control over how his body is affected by its environment and he cannot die. Unlike Princess Luna and Celestia, who are still limited to a 10,000 year lifespan by being carbon-based lifeforms, he is a true immortal creature. To put all of this simply, he’s kind of like the gems in Steven Universe: a lightweight projection that has a physical body and affect on reality.
Cosmos:
-Cosmos is a similar construction to Discord - she is also composed of dark energy that she can only harness when she has her stars. She is the force that allows the cycling of energy, in most basic terms. She categorizes herself as the Spirit of Malice, but rather more accurately, she embodies the culture that summoned her. She comes from a planet far beyond Equestria. Much like Grogar, the purpose she was made for backfired against her creators, and she transformed her planet into a dusty, lifeless rock because a servant delivered her the wrong flavored cake. Much to her chagrin when she realized she couldn’t snap her fingers and bring her civilization back to life.

-Cosmos loved once as well. She ate her.
-She is also a true immortal, and feels a vague connection with Discord for this reason. She doesn’t care about him or anything, but she recognizes he’s the only other being that understands her state of being. And she, like all sentient creatures, can get lonely at times. Really she only tolerated him because he was submissive and she could do whatever she wanted. Luna, on the other hand, is fun to mess with. That stern, law-abiding ruler cannot ignore Cosmos’ baiting quips, and maybe, just maybe, Cosmos looks forward to her monthly visits to the moon. It’s prolly just because Luna’s cheap company.
-Cosmos is, for the most part, perfectly fine with the purpose she was given as it is self-serving. However, she is capable of recognizing beauty and preciousness. Sometimes she can feel other emotions besides rage, cruel delight, jealousy and other negative emotions. Jealousy is after all a product of fear, and fear is a product of a need to survive. Cosmos can recognize the need to survive in other living things, but struggles with relating beyond that. At the moment, she has mixed feelings about hating the ponies of Equestria; they don’t have a use for her like the society that summoned her did. She is literally purposeless, and has little to act out on. It’s a very lonely existence for Cosmos, but one that she has chosen to sew for herself. In other words, despite having a born-in purpose, draconequui are capable of controlling their own actions. Kind of like Legosi in Beasters; he has this instinct that he is compelled to act on, but with hard work and love, he can overcome it. Time will tell if Cosmos can even feel love. Well…at least, time will tell if she can feel love again.
Larkspur:
-Larkspur is the only known draconequus-pony hybrid. He cannot do most of the things draconequui are supposed to, such as traverse dimensions, change reality, etc. He is magically stunted, but his magic manifests itself as a green fire he called Chaos Fire. He cannot control what the fire does, so it is highly discouraged that one touches the fire or gets on his bad side. In elementary school, the fire transformed his classmate Connie into a rabbit, which had to be magically undone by Twilight Sparkle. NOTE: inanimate objects and plants transformed by the fire appear normal, but will turn into ash with application of force.

-Larkspur has no mark and no purpose. Sometimes he wishes he had a cutie mark to give him some direction, some certainty in what he needs to do in society, but fuck society anyways. Ponies are just slaves to their cutie marks after all.
-To make up for his magical disability, he is entirely immune to all toxins. This includes snake bites, ingestion of poisons, and inhalation of toxic air. Maybe his purpose is pest control and fumigation.
There are some of my thoughts on the draconequus! This is the first time I really had to challenge myself not to overexplain things because once I got too in depth with these guys, I knew it just wouldn’t be fun to read. Tell me your ideas about what a draconequus is! I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!
