Applejack is make from mango and yellow minky (with a tiny bit of cherry for her mane and tail). Her hat is felt that I stiffened and dyed. The hat is removable, but I could sew it in place if the eventual buyer would prefer it that way. Her eyes and cutie marks are machine embroidered. I designed all the patterns. She’s stuffed with polyfil and poly pellets.
Her hat was an interesting challenge. When I make AJ in a larger size, I do the hat in minky, but I thought it would look too bulky, so I decided to make it out of felt. The color I got wasn’t quite right, and the felt itself was too floppy, so I soaked it in a solution of glue, water, and fabric paint and let it dry (which took a surprisingly long time–I guess felt is more absorbent than I thought) It’s still bendable, but it holds it’s shape better than it would have. Then I cut out the pieces and glued and sewed them together. Probably more effort than I should expend, but I can’t help it–I want the ponies to look right.
