Cutie Mark Story

Affinity was about 3 years old and she woke up in the middle of the night to find her parents fighting, very obviously angry at one another. She understood what they were really feeling rather than the anger they were expressing to each other, basically her mother was scared to lose her husband and her father was ashamed of his cowardice. She announced it to them because she thought everypony knew the things she knew and didn’t know why they weren’t acting like it. Since she was only 3 she didn’t call their emotions by the proper names, as she really didn’t have a grasp on those as a child, but she explained them by referring to physical reactions a pony has when feeling that emotion, shaky for scared and head down for ashamed. Upon their confusion to the in depth understanding of their emotional state coming from their 3 year old, she realized that her understanding must be unique to her and received her cutie mark.

Family

Sincerity, her mother, is a simple weaver in the crystal empire. She’s in the lower class of crystal ponies and has always lived a very simple and peaceful life. She met True Heart, a collector and merchant of art and artifacts, when he visited the crystal empire for business. She was the only crystal pony that he met who was kind to him. They fell in love almost instantly, and soon had Affinity. True Heart stayed in the Crystal Empire on Sincerity’s request as she believed that the only safe place in Equestria was the Crystal Empire.

Crystal Empire AU Information

Before Sombra, most crystal ponies considered themselves a higher race of pony above unicorns, pegasi, and earth ponies. The only kind of pony they thought was above them were the alicorns because alicorns were see more as gods in that time. There was very little breeding between the crystal ponies and other pony kinds, which made crystal unicorns, pegasi, and earth ponies rare. They were also looked down upon as they were still considered less for being a mix breed. Most children of mixed couples presented little to no crystal like attributes. Sombra was actually a mix between a crystal pony and unicorn, but had no crystal showing in him so he came to hate the crystal ponies for how they treated him and his family. This led him to take over the empire to prove his superiority.

After being liberated by the Mane Six and Spike, the crystal ponies were forced to see non-crystal ponies as equals, though it didn’t take for everyone and some still see others as less. But it’s a work in progress.

More Info

Affinity’s father left their family because of how he was treated in the Crystal Empire. Shortly after he left, Sombra took over and the Crystal Empire disappeared. He died of regret and loneliness. After the Empire came back, Affinity went looking for her father and found out about his demise. She decided then that instead of working as a weaver with her mother like before, she would open her own counseling office to help families and couples and friends work things out like she wishes she could have done for her parents.
