Right from her very first episode, Applebuck Season, Applejack has had a very strong running theme.
She’s always the grounded, responsible hardworking member of the mane six, often eschewing silly and frivolous things in favour of the practical.
She never really allowed herself to just let her guard down and enjoy herself.
All that changed with last week’s episode, Going to Seed.
Here, we finally see her cut loose and have some fun, letting herself feel like a little filly again and enjoy something that, until recently, she saw as something only for children.
Her responsibilities are still important to her, but now she’s at last comfortable with having just a plain old good time alongside it.
It’s an interesting thing for her character, and actually serves as a decent metaphor for the show’s fans as a whole when you think on it.
After all, what is the MLP fandom if not proof that fun isn’t something for kids alone?
Having said that, I do feel that this is a clear sign that this may well be the last true Applejack episode the show gives us, since it’s having her break out of the well-established groundedness she’s so known for.
And if that’s the case, I can’t think of a more enjoyable way to bid farewell to her episodes
