I’m sure none of you will be surprised to hear that it didn’t take long for this duo to get busy once they tied the knot. Certainly no citizens of Ponyville batted an eye when rumors spread of the new Carnivals owners expecting. I mean, the words ‘careful’ and ‘prepared’ don’t exactly come to mind when talking about a reckless, sleezy ‘ex’-con artist and a flighty, ̶s̶e̶x̶y̶ ̶ prideful performer. However, despite Flim never planning on finding a lover, much less producing noisy messy foals with said lover, he’s learned a thing or two about rolling with the punches. So when Trixie announced her pregnancy to him in her Trixie-ish way- via a firework show during a rehearsal- Flim took it fairly easily. Well, After his wife revived him with the garden hose, that is.
Although He’s wasn’t ready to jump on the Daddy train at first, the more he got used to the elated Trixie’s enthusiasm and constant chatter over their soon-to-be foal, the more he came to accept that yep he was gonna be a dad oh well no turning back now. And okay maybe having a kiddo to bring up in the business, pass his knowledge ̶t̶r̶i̶c̶k̶s̶ on to, and play a bit of poker with was a tolerable idea that he definitely didn’t catch himself daydreaming about.
But all pleasant thoughts of pudgy hooves and father-foal bonding time where pushed aside when the pregnancy hormones kicked into high gear. You know how some annoying little kids will turn the car volume knob up from max down to min within the span of three seconds over and over just to annoy you? Because that’s exactly how Trixie’s pregnancy experience felt to Flim for those awful, everlasting six months. Aside from a few, precious moments of calmness, Flim’s life was a walking nightmare. Most husbands panic when the water breaks and the nurse screams “it’s coming!”, but for Flim, that scream sounded as melodic as angels singing the hallelujah chorus.
However, his relief was quickly put on hold when he found himself being handed not one, but two foals. Being a twin himself, he had a sneaking suspicion her enlarged tummy was holding two as well, but Trixie refused a screening. Good thing they’d picked out both a girl and boy name ahead of time. Hocus Pocus, their little blue boy, was the first to enter the world with his fiery red-headed sister, Mirage, right on his stubby tail. Both unicorns and both utterly perfect in every single way. Among the midst of raging, swirling feelings of shock, fear, and adrenaline-spiked anxiety, Flim felt something he never thought he’d experience: Parental love.
What happened then? Well, in Ponyville they say- that Flim’s small, pruny, dusty heart grew maybe a size and a half that day.
