Ropes strained and Carbiners clinked against stone; sounds that echoed through the verdant valley along with the grunts of a pair of mountain climbers, one man and one woman. They carefully scaled the jagged peak, mountain wind whipping at their faces as they kept ascending. After some careful shimmying, they reached an outcropping of stone that was solid enough to rest on after such a taxing climb.
THOOM, THOOM, THOOM, THOOM…
“What the…?” The pair chorused, looking out into the valley…
…To behold a titanic orange Dragoness stomping their way, leaving huge footprints in the forest.
She was nearly as big as the mountain itself!
Each step was a small quake, shaking rocks loose from the mountain beneath them; getting worse as she approached, easily at eye-level with them…and making them feel link ants.
When she arrived, head tilted skeptically, they paled again. This dragoness truly was massive; her eye alone larger than a human. But they held down their fear–they recognized her from the news: a visitor from Equus; studying under Princess Twilight. They knew she wouldn’t harm them.
“What are you two tinies doing?” the titaness quipped. “I know humans can be wierd, but what’s going on here?”
“Climbing the mountain, duh.” Climber Girl interjected. “What did you think we were doing, having a tea party?” She ignored her friend’s protests at mouthing off to the giantess.
The dragoness tilted her head. “Mountain climbing? I could do that in two minutes!” Her forked tongue ran over her lips. “Seriously, I could eat this little mountain in an afternoon…maybe faster, if I missed breakfast that day.” She leaned in to the two and smirked, crossing her arms. “Dragons like to break boulders for kicks, but what’s so fun about climbing all over lunch? You don’t see ponies climbing sandwiches.”
Climber Dude wanted to back away–a natural response to being one fall away from a dragon’s mouth–but the spit of mountain was so narrow he couldn’t take two steps without hitting a wall. “I…uh..you see, kid…”
“Yeah, I see that you’re tiny as an ant climbing an anthill…no offense,” Smolder quipped, hands on her hips. “Sure, for you this mountain is big, but for me? It’s a hill. For you, Headmare Twilight’s desk would be a mountain.” She laughed, leaning against the peak. “Seriously, don’t make a show of it. Just ask someone big, and they’ll carry you up! And I’m big enough, so…” She smirked.
An clawed orange paw descended on Climber Dude.
“Wait; wait! HOLD ON–” He was enveloped in orange scales, his cry muffled.
Climber Girl paled at the scene, but couldn’t stop herself from laughing. “H-hey, don’t forget me!” She called out. Smolder quirked an eyebrow, shrugged, and snatched her off the mountain. She was dropped into the hand holding her friend, which closed into a loose fist around them.
Smolder brought them up to her muzzle–for Climber Dude, uncomfortably close to her fanged maw. “There ya go. Secure enough you won’t fall, but you can still sightsee. Just relax and let a dragon show you how it’s done!”
Moments later, massive chunks of stone were hurtling toward the ground, dislodged by the giant dragoness. They tumbled down, making thunderous noise until they slammed into the earth; flattening trees and leaving craters. Smolder paid them no mind, easily scaling the mountain with two humans clenched in one hand.
Climber Girl wiggled into the most comfortable position she could manage. “Well, looks like we get a free ride. Might as well enjoy it.” She called up to their helper/captress; “Hey kid! Remember to carry us down, too!”
“Sure…and don’t call me ‘kid’. The name’s Smolder,” the dragoness thundered.
Climber Dude buried his face in his hands. “‘Go mountain climbing’ they said. ‘It’ll be fun’, they said…”
