For once, she didn’t have a care in the world. There was no yelling, no drama, and no heartbreak where she was. She wasn’t even thinking about it. Instead, she lounged on the sofa, sipping her tea and listening to her mentors Starflower and Brilliant Blood-Rose share the latest gossip.
“So what did she do next?”
“Well,” Starflower began, “Daisy Chain finally saved up enough bits and left. I hear she moved in with her boyfriend. Wild Oats, the one that her parents don’t like.”
“She’s got guts,” Rose commented. “Leaving her parents for the guy they hate? How rebellious. I like her already.”
“An’ what about Chip?” Fafa asked.
“He’s still with his parents. Rumor has it that Daisy and her boyfriend are trying to save up money to have him move in with them.”
“Girl, they’d better hurry up. Chip and Daisy’s parents are this close to getting a divorce.”
“Yeah. From what I’ve heard, they’ve been falling out of love for years.”
As Fafa listened to the story unfold, the couldn’t help but notice an aching feeling in her gut. The filly running away to be with her forbidden lover, the parents considering divorce, the little brother getting caught in the middle of it all…it was all familiar to her. Too familiar.
Because it had happened to her family.
That’s when a sudden realization struck Fafa. She couldn’t stay here. She couldn’t lounge around on her friends’ sofa and get lost in rebellion and gossip when her family was torn apart. Ma and Mummy were probably heartbroken and worried sick. There was probably a search party out for her by now. But most of all, Fafa realized one thing: she really missed her sister.
“I gotta go.” She quickly jumped up from her seat.
“Go? Where?”
“I’ve got to find my sister.”
Fafa galloped into her room and came out with her packed saddlebags before Starflower stopped her.
“You don’t even know where she is.”
“I’m gonna find her!”
Rose joined Starflower at her side. “Not without us, you won’t. We’re going with you.”
Fafa looked back at them in surprise. “R…really? Y’all would do that?”
“Of course,” Starflower smiled. “Gal-pals stick together. We’d never let you down. What do you say?”
This filled Fafa with a new strength as she headed out to face the world. With her idols by her side, nothing could stop her. She would find her sister.
“Our crusade begins! For family!”
