The eldest of Pinkie and Cheese’s adopted brood, Neon was a wild child from the start. He was an outcast at the orphanage, with a quick temper and a tendency to attack other foals (usually bullies). He made a habit of coming to the rescue of two fillies at the orphanage who were regularly picked on by the other kids. Grey Mornings and Ember Dust befriended this feisty rebel and the trio became inseparable. Three years later, Pinkie and Cheese showed up to adopt the foal they had been matched with, Grey Mornings. However, when they arrived and saw how close the trio were, they knew they couldn’t separate them. It took almost a year and a half of extensive paperwork and payments, but in the end, Neon, Grey and Ember went home with Pinkie and Cheese as one big family.
While Ember and Grey got along well with the other foals in Ponyville, Neon continued to be a bit of a troublemaker and outcast among his peers. He wasn’t the smartest colt in school, but he had a plethora of street smarts and could read other ponies with ease. It became clear that, despite his slightly violent nature, he had a gift for helping ponies with more personal matters. He would often see a stressed or upset foal and wouldn’t hesitate to trot over, talk to them and try to help them feel better and nudge them towards solutions to their dilemmas. Despite his talent for helping others, Neon’s school days ranged from uneventful to horrid and he could not wait to move on with his life. Ghosts of his past haunted his teen years and he fell into all kinds of trouble, looking for outlets for his rage and stress. He dropped out of school and left home to travel. The next five years were spent on drugs, Diamond Dog fight rings and a slew of other bad choices, meanwhile no pony had seen or heard from him at all.
Then, one day, he showed up on Pinkie Pie’s doorstep, scarred, bruised, malnourished and sullenly asking if he could stay the night. Pinkie welcomed her beloved son back with open arms and she and Cheese helped him get back on his hooves and start focusing on a real career for himself. He now works alongside Pink Lady at the Fly High Center, as a child therapist. Though he has kept his piercings, tattoos and love of heavy metal and rock music from his darker days, he has put heaps of effort and then some into being the stallion he is today. He strives to build a better future, by helping the kids who need the same help he never got before being sent to the orphanage.
