It was only a dreamed-up fantasy, yet it managed to surpass any of the Diamond episodes we ended up getting from the show. For one, it placed Diamond and Silver on equal footing, showcasing them as equally disgruntled about whatever was bothering them (and presumably equally to blame). The conflict of the episode didn’t place Diamond and Silver as simple antagonist-o-trons whom the Crusaders needed to best so the episode could end (again, presumably). I take it the nature of their argument could have provided deeper insight into each of the characters to give us some actual distinguishing character traits between the two, and it could have been a golden opportunity for us to learn the true nature of Diamond and Silver’s relationship. If the writers really wanted to make things interesting, they could have had the CMC be indirectly responsible for the break-up, thus making them feel like they needed to be the ones to fix it.
The main point I’m getting at is that Diamond and Silver having a genuine clash that threatened their friendship is something we never truly got to see from the show. We did get a slapdash one-sided breakup involving Silver chewing out Diamond for ten seconds, but that was merely a plot device to place Diamond at her lowest point for the sake of the story. So how about it? How about a few Diamond and Silver-themed firecrackers? Because it looks like Illy isn’t the only one in the running for Dazzle’s leash…
