I decided to make the princesses more regency than Lolita, partially because Celestia really called for a full-length gown.  
I think I’ll put Luna in a slightly less full petticoat when the time comes.  
I already knew I wanted Celestia to have a transparent overskirt with her cutie mark appliqud onto it, and was wondering to myself where I’d find fabric that would be reminiscent of her mane. And then it hit me: Dr Who! (Or should I say Dr Whooves?) If I made the overskirt in contrasting panels like the sixth Doctor’s coat, I could get the very floaty look of her mane, as well as have a much better time finding pastel aqua, mint, lavender and pink fabric. Chiffon, I’m thinking. With a satin gown and I think I actually know where to get champagne satin for the appliqu.
 
Oh, gods, I’m going to make a elegant gown of satin and chiffon and people are going to point at it and shout, “Troll!”
 
I know what’s coming next. To answer your questions, I’ve found where I’ll be printing the specialty printed fabric, and barring unforeseen expenses I’ll be starting buying the fabric in October.”
