After cleaning the cutting board and knives (including her own old, chipped one) she checks the soup.
It still needs some time, so she gives it a stir and a sip, and thinking that it was a little bland puts some salt and pepper on it.
Not to much though. Barber says those things are expensive.
Ruby goes down and lays on her potato sack, and looks up at her pictures. She fantasizes about what she could do to get some money. Scenes of daring bank heists and sneaky cat burglaries dance through her head, but she doesn’t really have the talent to plan those kind of things at the moment. That’s more Barber’s thing.
Ruby then thinks about what is nearby.
More than old, rundown houses there is the grocery, as well as the dock warehouses, as well as the warehouses themselves. There are more to the north of the dock, while to the west it gets a bit more elegant, as that’s where all the tour boats come in. To the south and east are basically where the rest of Whitherwater are.
There is also a “hotel” nearby, but Barber says to stay away from it, which is fine with her since she has no reason to pay for a room when she’s got a perfectly good one right here.
