Aurora Veil is an Alicorn, born in the Alicorn civilization located somewhere outside of Equestrian Borders. She was born as a Pegasus, and earned her horn in her later teen years alongside her Cutie Mark. (The Alicorns from this civilization do not earn their Cutie Marks and horns/wings until their late teens for maturity reasons.) Due to the fact she grew up knowing about her heritage, Aurora did not stress over obtaining a Cutie Mark like Clarissa Clarity, a fellow Alicorn of her kind.
 
Aurora’s home is located in an area where the Aurora Borealis is visible almost every night. Growing up, she always begged her mother to let her stay up to watch it until it faded into the starry night, one of which she watched with awe. Her father told her stories about the mares that raised the sun and the moon and stars every day and night. The two Alicorns hailed from their lands, and left during the reign of Discord in the Chaotic Era in the lands known as Equestria. The two were the rare breeds of their species, known to live much longer than the average Alicorn. Aurora has a preference for the night, as she enjoys looking at the constellations Luna has created in the dotted, dark sky.
 
Being an Alicorn, Aurora is able to withstand more extreme conditions, thus giving her the ability to fly higher than most. This aided her in her child and teen years where she would fly higher to be closer to the Aurora Borealis that was cast over the starry skies by her fellow kin. Her love for the colorful lights in the sky leads her to gaining her Cutie Mark, a trail of the Aurora Borealis. She would fly to the lower streaks and direct them with her wings, causing them to move like the flowing ribbons we normally see. She is able to direct the lights’ movement much like Rainbow Dash is able to control the clouds.
 
When Aurora gained her horn, she was able to learn the spells to cast these lights into the sky. While she is a very good flyer, she is not very good at spells and magic. She only really knows how to cast the spells pertaining to the aurora borealis. With her magic, she is able to create and control the beautiful light ribbons in the sky.
 
The Alicorn is also self-conscious about the size of her wings and horn. The other Alicorns all have majestic wings and horns, though hers are smaller. She also has a smaller, more Equestrian body type. She is not as tall as the other Alicorns (most newly turned Alicorns in the civilization have the body type of Twilight, she is the same size as a normal pony in Equestria) and is self-conscious about this fact. Though, her smaller body type does give her an advantage in flight and she is able to move easier when moving the lights.
 
When she learned of another Alicorn beside the two sisters in Equestria (Clarissa Clarity), Aurora grew curious and decided to travel out to the lands to find her. Naturally, she was met with odd stares and looks at another Alicorn arriving in Equestria, especially one with smaller wings and a smaller horn than her counterparts. (Due to the uncomfortable stares, Aurora does obtain a coat (similar to Sunburst’s) to hide her wings so she can look like a normal Unicorn.)
