While little Sunset Shimmer’s life in the Canterlot orphanage was largely a lonesome ordeal,
she did have one cherished buddy in her own peer group. That buddy was Night Glider!

One of the scant few pegasi in the institution (let alone the city), scrappy Night Glider had just as big
a share of bullies as did Sunset. But where Sunset found she could defend Night Glider from the mean
kids’ magical attacks, so could the brave little pegasus protect her friend from physical violence. The
two fillies’ coalition developed into a deep friendship that should have segued into family; Sunset had
long hoped that she and Night Glider would be adopted together, and the two could officially be siblings.

Sunset’s swift absorption into the School for Gifted Unicorns seemed
to put the kibosh on that dream, much to the sorrow of our heroine.

Perhaps the two “sisters” will meet again one day?

P.S. - You may recall that Lyra was also Sunset’s friend and fellow orphan, but our minty little pal
was adopted early, at around age six. Furthermore, Lyra was such a sweet-natured and innocent dope
that that she figured everyone was her friend, even the kids who absolutely did NOT want to hear her
constant ramblings-on about the humans or whatever BS imaginary friends she was perpetually touting.
