MEETING OF THE ANCIENTS
 
It was a time of peace and prosperity in Equestria. Tirek had been defeated and returned to his imprisonment in Tartarus. The newly-constructed castle, belonging to Princess Twilight Sparkle, stood tall over the town of Ponyville, its appearance ringing in this time of repose.
 
Some time later, an unusual event had occurred deep within the Everfree Forest. One that caused a magical disturbance to ripple out across Equestria and beyond. Many sensed this disturbance, and were worried that a new threat had come to take their peace of mind.
 
Twilight took it upon herself, and herself alone, the task of investigating this disturbance. Though she was cautioned to take assistance, she insisted she merely wished to investigate the disturbance, not confront its source or perpetrator. And so, she set off.
 
Hours later, she returned shaken, uncertain. Friends and colleagues buzzed with questions, but she wouldn’t answer them, if she even registered their existence. Her mind seemed elsewhere, perhaps continually occupied by whatever had happened in there.
 
A few days passed, with Twilight shut up in her room of her castle. Celestias left-hoof, (1) Viceroy Endless Dream, alias Mugen Kagemaru, arrived in Ponyville for his weekly visit to his close friend Fluttershy. She told him of what had happened to Twilight, for he had also sensed the unusual disturbance in the Everfree Forest. Troubled by this news, he went to see Twilight and ask her himself.
 
She welcomed him with a tired smile and a cup of tea, and they talked of how the week had gone. But when the topic reached Twilight’s recent journey into the Everfree Forest, she went silent. Pressing her only irritated her, and she told him she did not wish to discuss it.
 
More deeply concerned than before, he decided to venture into the Everfree Forest and see for himself what had happened. As he walked among the trees, he often felt like he was being watched, but could not catch the watcher in the act. Perhaps it was just Zecora?
 
And then he approached the source of the disturbance. It was the Grove Of Harmony, named for the lone tree that had been there longer than the Princesses had been around, taking root no sooner than some time prior to the reign of Discord. Was there a problem with the Tree Of Harmony, whose fruit had brought Equestria its salvation many times over?
 
It was when he descended the stairs and came upon the Grove that he saw something he could not have believed, had he been told of it.
 
A beautiful unicorn, slightly taller than him, but not quite as tall as Celestia, (2) stood there, unaware of her visitor. But that was soon fixed, as she turned to him with a kind smile. Returning the smile, he spoke what history remembers as the first words of a long friendship.

(1) It would be a bit pretentious of me to put him as her right-hoof since thats usually reserved for somepony else. I won’t rob him/her of that just because he CLEARLY needs such a position just so he and Celestia can have the friendship I see them having.
 
(2) I’ve always believed his height to be somewhere between Celestia and Big Macintosh, but there might be somepony else there. (Luna, maybe?)
