Description
Here, I have ponified one of America’s greatest anti-heroes: J. Wellington Wimpy (Popeye). Wimpy is an interesting character because his moral code is riddled with loopholes and exceptions yet Popeye still considers him to be his best friend. Wimpy is sort of a con artist in that he has no problem with cheating someone in order to get himself a hamburger (see cutie mark). Wimpy, though a major character in the comic strip, which still runs on Sundays (damn you Providence Journal, why can’t you get it?), he was a much more minor character in the animated theatrical short cartoons made by the Fleischer Brothers because, with an IQ over 300, he is too intellectual to be sustain in a seven minute story involving Popeye beating up Bluto to save Olive Oyl. This picture is named after his catchphrase: “I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.”
